Here’s an update on a fun project the team at Worcester Window Repair posted a few weeks ago and just completed today. These two bathroom windows were fixed, never opened and needed some TLC. We removed them, installed temporary windows (because no one likes to look at plywood) and brought them back to the shop to get to work. Here we removed all the divided light glass panels, rebuilt the rotten window sashes using wood hardener, new wood where necessary, and epoxy to repair what was needed, milled the sash’s to install spiral balancers, painted with top quality exterior paint (here is not a place to cut corners) and finally reinstalled the glass. The photo with the white powdery “stuff” on the windows is plaster which we use on the glaze for a day to help dry the linseed oil based glaze. The last two photos are them installed an working nicely. Enjoy the photos. We throughly enjoyed working with this client.

Always fun! What started out as a simple project turned out to be so much more. The original scope was trim a previous repaired 3 1/2 inch lower sill which was much too wide under these four windows. Being too wide and not properly caulked, rain water was getting into the house. Not knowing the extent of the damage, we started scrapping. Well, about a pound of old caulk was used to ”repair” the prior damage. Yikes! We removed the old sill completely, dug out all the old rotten wood and treated it with wood hardener. In this case, it didn’t make sense to completely remove the sill due to time and cost, so after the wood hardener set up, screws were installed through the now void cavity and water putty (excellent material for this type of repair) used to let stiffen and dry. The next day a new, more appropriate sized PVC sill was installed and finished with white caulk. No more rotten windows here! When we return to repair the owners water damaged window sashes in a few weeks, we’ll sand and paint this repair to look like new. We always balance the repair with the cost and do our best to help our customers find the best and most cost effective solutions.

We’re just catching up on posting updates as we’re doing a number of neat projects. Last week we worked for a wonderful customer who had us renew three vintage windows. The pictures do not fully illustrate all the work we did over two days. Here we removed fixed storm windows, removed the old glaze and reglazed anew, painted with Benjamin Moore Exterior Duration paint (expensive yet so worth it)and did a full razor blade cleaning on the interior and exterior side of the windows and as well as both sides of the storms. While we waited for paint to dry, we did some touch up concrete work around two of her basement windows and painted at no additional cost. We hate standing around…see a need a fill a need. We’ll return next week to touch up those windows once the concrete more fully sets. Our customer was the sweetest; she even made us a fantastic banana bread desert and served the coldest cokes during those hot days last week. We love our customers & what we do!

Here's a neat project currently underway. In the photos we have a pair of bathroom windows which are undergoing a full reconditioning and an addition of adding the ability to open them as in the prior configuration, they were fixed in place. Without storm windows to close, temporary windows were made using materials from around the shop and plexiglass to avoid a plywood "blockoff" and removing all-natural light from the room. Plastic was also used in the jam area to protect the sills from any rain. The window on the bench is an attic window also removed from the same home with reconstruction underway. Here we have the frame which needed some love and, when restored to square and epoxied, can no longer accommodate the old glass. No matter, 4 new panes will be installed, glazed, the window then primed, sealed, then painted. In a few days this will be ready to be reinstalled!
