I had so many of you message, comment and ask questions about the boxwood topiary DIY that I posted a few months ago.
(Saved in my “topiary DIY” highlights and pinned at the top of my posts)
Since so many of you loved the idea, I wanted to share a tip for growing your own boxwood topiary.
About a year ago, I saw my friend Emily share a post about growing your own topiaries from boxwood cuttings.
I don’t have any boxwood plants but my daughter does, so I grabbed some cuttings from her shrubs and planted them in a terra cotta pot.
To grow your own, you just take a cutting from a boxwood shrub and strip the lower leaves off, then place the cutting in some good potting soil.
The key is keeping them watered!
I placed mine in the flower bed so they would get water from the sprinkler system whenever I forgot to hand water them.
I brought them inside during the winter anytime it was going to be below freezing temps.
It has been about a year since I planted the cuttings and today I checked the cuttings and they have roots!!! 🎉
(It may not take a year for them to root, I just haven’t checked until now)
Now, I will plant each individual cutting in its own pot and let it grow until it’s large enough to train into a topiary.
How amazing is that?
