Let’s talk about the “Lack of impurities/stain/Fleexe Damage (5 points ) scoring in fleece shows.
While alpacas are expected to be in “paddock condition “ in the show ring, Exhibitors are aspected to remove excess vegetable matter(VM) burrs, dung, and stains from the prime blanket! ( page 127 The Art and Science of Alpaca Judging)

The same applies to alpacas you want to show their fleece in fleece shows. Please wand them down to flick off the straw, hay and beans. You can gently shop vacuum them too. Do this a week before shearing and try to keep their pen clean. Then wand them off before the are shorn. Please don’t use a blower as the fine dirt then goes to the skin and it also destroys the architectural structure of your fleece.

How much is excessive VM? See my pictures below.
My OCD can’t just let a client’s fleece go to show like this. Yes they will probably loose .5-1 point when I’m finished but that’s better than loosing 4-5 points and a point off of the weight score too.

Finished my wet 3-D wet felted hobo purse. It was made of fine merino and alpaca along with embellishments of fire star and Angelina for a little sparkle. I’ve lined the interior with a black cotton blend fabrick which is hand stitched into the bag.

This is our dear friend’s alpaca in TN. They helped us with Ali, our crooked neck cria and had a huge part in her healing and recovery.

Levvie broke her leg and underwent treatment at the University of Tennessee. The medical bill was large. Livvie faces rehab once she heals. David and Christine are committed to helping Livvie fully recover but could use some help.

They have some wonderful handmade items in their farm store too!

I’m getting excited about plans to open a new store here in Ohio later this year. We will have an on line store too. In the meantime I’m working on making items for the store from my alpaca yarn and fiber.
