I’ve rarely had a surprise like this one during a kiln opening, and I can’t get enough of it.

This ruby drip effect was accomplished by layering my white liner glaze over-top the patina glaze of the body. My expectation was a frosted white effect and what I got was a bloody miracle.

It’s a complete guess but I’m thinking that the top layer of liner glaze kept the iron in the patina glaze from reducing. I know that red iron oxide can produce a vast variety of results, but it’s always been fairly predictable for my uses.

For comparison, the last photo shows the liner glaze layered over my yellow glaze.
