Trentheim Designs has found another place to call home!

We're excited to announce that our creations are now available at Carolina Market Exchange in Troy, North Carolina! (Grand Opening November 3rd!)

For a small business like ours, getting our work into another retail location is a pretty big deal. Every new shop means more people have an opportunity to discover what we're making without having to track us down at a festival or vendor market.

And naturally, we couldn't just move into a new location without bringing something new along.

Our first-ever Trentheim Designs T-shirts are making their debut! Yes, we've finally ventured into apparel. And yes, Bigfoot is involved. Because apparently there's no limit to the number of places Sasquatch can turn up around here.

If you're in the Troy area, stop by Carolina Market Exchange and take a look. We're excited to be part of the shop and look forward to introducing our work to a whole new community.

And to everyone who has supported Trentheim Designs as we've grown, thank you. Every new opportunity is another reminder of how much that support matters.

HOLLYFEST IS TOMORROW!

We're packing up Trentheim Designs and heading to Holly Springs for one of our favorite kinds of Saturdays—a day surrounded by local makers, interesting creations, and people who appreciate handmade work.

We'll be participating in the Harvest Artisan Market at HollyFest 2026, and we'd love for you to stop by!

Whether you're looking for a unique gift, something for your home, or just want to see what we've been creating lately, come take a look.

And if you've been following our work online but haven't met us in person, please introduce yourself. We genuinely enjoy meeting the people behind the likes, comments, and messages.

NOT EVERY RACE BIB REPRESENTS A PERSONAL BEST.

Some represent the fastest you've ever run. Others represent the hardest you've ever worked just to finish. And a few remind you of the day everything went wrong, but somehow you crossed the finish line anyway. We happen to think those are worth remembering, too.

Our World's Okayest Runner Bib Display was created with a little humor and a lot of appreciation for the stories that come with running. Because you don't have to win a race to have a race worth remembering. Sometimes showing up, putting in the effort, and getting across that finish line is quite an accomplishment.

So here's a question for our running friends: Which race bib means the most to you—and why?

SOMETIMES AN IDEA STARTS WITH AN EMPTY BOTTLE.

One of the hazards of having a workshop full of interesting equipment is that you start looking at ordinary objects a little differently.

An empty glass bottle? Well, that could become a lamp.

Add some engraved pine trees, a moon, maybe the world champion at hide-and-seek, and suddenly we're exploring an entirely different project.

Of course, there's a difference between imagining something and figuring out how to make it work.

How do we get the right frosted appearance? How should the design wrap around the glass? How will the lighting change the finished effect? Those are the questions that make experimenting interesting.

Not every experiment becomes a product. Sometimes the value is simply learning something new. And sometimes an empty bottle turns into something worth keeping.

What ordinary object would you like to see transformed into something completely different?

SOME PEOPLE DECORATE FOR HALLOWEEN. OTHERS PREPARE FOR BIGFOOT.

Pumpkins? Sure. Skeletons? Nothing wrong with those. But what about a little advance warning that something large, hairy, and notoriously camera-shy might be wandering through your property?

Our Bigfoot Crossing designs are for the folks who appreciate a little mystery, a little humor, and the possibility that Sasquatch might be closer than we think. Besides, if Bigfoot ever does show up at your house, wouldn't it be nice if he knew he was welcome? Or at least that somebody was expecting him?

We aren't saying Bigfoot is real. We're just saying we've never seen him shopping at a big-box home décor store.

YOU DON'T ALWAYS HAVE TO FIND US AT A VENDOR MARKET!

We love getting out to markets and festivals, meeting people, and showing off what we've been making. But we also know that sometimes you just want to wander into a shop, look around, and see what catches your eye. Fortunately, you can find Trentheim Designs at several retail locations around North Carolina!

Two places worth visiting are:

The Studio
106 W. Chatham Street
Apex, NC

The Stables Marketplace
11 S. Main Street
Franklinton, NC

Both are wonderful places to discover local makers, unique gifts, and things you probably didn't know you needed until you saw them.

We're grateful to the shops that make room for small businesses like ours. Supporting a local shop often means supporting a whole collection of independent makers at the same time.

And that's something worth celebrating.

Wood, acrylic, leather, and metal all have something in common: we work with them at Trentheim Designs. But that's about where the similarities end.

Wood has grain, character, and a tendency to remind you that no two pieces are exactly alike. Acrylic offers an entirely different set of possibilities. And metal? Well, metal brings its own challenges to the party.

One of the interesting things about laser engraving is that the material itself plays a major role in how a project turns out. Sometimes the design is the easy part. Figuring out exactly how to make it happen is where the real work begins. Fortunately, we rather enjoy that part.

What's your favorite material for handmade gifts or decorations?

HollyFest returns to Holly Springs on Saturday, October 31, bringing together local makers, artists, small businesses, food vendors, and plenty of activities for the whole family.

Meanwhile, the Trentheim Designs workshop is keeping busy with fall and holiday creations. There are ornaments to make, designs to finish, displays to organize, and always another idea competing for space on the workbench.

That's the fun—and occasionally the chaos—of running a small creative business.
When you're browsing a maker market, what usually catches your attention first? Holiday decorations, something for your home, a unique gift, or something completely unexpected?

Every tabletop gamer has experienced it. You need a 15 or better. You pick up your favorite d20, give it a little encouragement, and roll.

Natural 1.

Okay. Everybody has a bad day. Next roll? Another 1.

At some point, you have to accept that the dice are doing this deliberately.
Fortunately, Trentheim Designs has a solution: Dice Jail. A place for those troublesome dice to contemplate their poor decisions while the rest of the party gets on with the adventure.

Will incarceration improve their behavior? Probably not. But at least you'll feel better.

What's the worst streak of bad rolls you've ever experienced?

There's something about a good vendor market that you just can't duplicate online.

Sure, we love making things. We love seeing an idea go from a sketch to a finished product. But one of the best parts of taking Trentheim Designs on the road is watching people discover our work.

Sometimes someone spots exactly what they've been looking for. Sometimes they find something they didn't know existed. And sometimes a conversation begins with, "I have a really strange question..." (Those are often our favorite conversations.) Every market teaches us something about what people enjoy, what catches their attention, and what we might want to try making next.

Thanks to everyone who takes the time to visit local makers, ask questions, and support small businesses. You help keep the creative wheels turning.
