YOU HELPED MAKE THIS POSSIBLE 🥺

What started as an idea to see if I could fund some new kiln shelves through sales, this is where we ended up.

Leaving at 7am this morning with Leo, at 5 degrees cold 🤣 to head to sydney with an old kiln shelf to trace 3 new shelfs from WOOO. We walked away with 3 new perfect shelves - HOW FLIPPING EXCITING!!!

A special thank you to my amassing community who got behind me and a special thank you to Emma, Simone, Olivia, Chris, Ethan & Elisha-Maree who helped fund this project 🙌🏽. 100% of your sales made this possible & for that I am deeply grateful.

Pottery isn’t just time intensive & slow to create but when it comes to upgrades you can find yourself spending significant amounts to make it happen.

Normally I’ve got a budget for this and I put away a % of sales but this fund has been completely exhausted from all the upgrades of new flooring in the studio!

It’s amazing how it all adds up! I’ve got manny more things on my list for the studio. To paint the brick walls white, a proper ventilation system for the kiln (my next priority), new kiln elements, a comfortable stool to use for my throwing wheel. The stool alone designed for pottwry is $150 AUD + hence how it’s all a process.

I look at what I spent today roughly $750 AUD and in comparison it’s more than I paid for my second hand kiln all those years ago so with that being said it’s certainly the season for upgrades to make my production smoother, easier, more consistent, my safe and more pleasurable to do.

My Etsy store is very lean on available stock, although all of the cutrent collection are available to order which production is about to start meaning dispatch willl be 4-5 weeks.

I’ve been working a lot on my new collection (white clay body) where I’ll have a large drop of mugs!

Whilst I wish I could do it all 🤣 I can’t so ordering for now on Etsy is your best bet knowing your item is in production, I guess like a pre-order!

Aiming to launch the new collection in 5 weeks (or less) if all goes to plan!

Stay tuned 👀

And as always thank you for your support ❤️

My kiln shelves have seen better days 😅

They’re so warped now and making my life is the studio incredibly frustrating and harder than it needs to be 🫣

Comment SHELVES below if you’d like the link to the collection helping fund the upgrade 🙌🏽. Just 4 items gets me to my goal of new shelves! What you see me show you in this reel is the exact piece/s that will be shipped with love to you ❤️

The goal? Pick up new shelves next week so every further firing will with new shelves!

Thanks for being here. Thank you for the support and always thanks for having fun with me ❤️

Off to their new homes they go all around the globe 🌎

I’ve always wanted to get a big map of the world on the wall, to start putting a pin everywhere a Cocoflamingo creation finds a new home. Matt reminded me the other day and that’s absolutely high on my list- Poland was a new shipping country for me this time round!

Although my list of new purchases is growing and growing I need new kiln shelf’s, a vent system for the kiln, some kiln repair, a new bat system, a new stool I’m sure I’m forgetting other things in there as well 😆.

I’m in the process of major upgrades to the studio. In the start this was just a bit of fun for me, although now it’s turned into a blessed and grateful solid business that needs upgrades to continue to keep up with my work load and I’m bloody grateful.

My next drop is in full swing, if you want early access to the new collection and to be apart of the fortnightly email updates comment YES below and I’ll send you the deets ❤️

She was a little bit charged today & I’m reminded of a very important thing.

All the emotions can co-exist. Happiness and sadness. Excitement and sorrow. Love and heartbreak and what magic it is that we get to feel it all & as deeply as we choose ❤️.

Pottery doesn’t stop. Glazing needs to be done. Orders need to be fired and dispatch.

I’m just grateful that I’m not back at the wheel throwing stage yet as the raw clay seems to know what’s up, when there is something up 😆

Well… I wasn’t expecting a kiln mishap to introduce me to so many new faces 🫣

If you’ve recently found my page through the kiln videos, welcome!!!!

I’m Chloe, a potter based in NSW Australia and the maker behind every piece you see here.

Over the last week, hundreds of thousands of people have watched and followed along as I navigate an unexpected kiln firing. Safe to say I didn’t expect my little old kiln to attract quite so much attention!🤣

For those wondering what I actually make, you’ll find handmade mugs, cups, bowls, personalised pieces and small-batch collections with plenty of the behind-the-scenes studio moments. I love sharing the mess, the journey, the frustrations, the wins and the beauty that is pottery, so you’re in the right place.

A number of people have asked if my work is available to purchase. I currently have a mix of ready to ship pieces, seconds (or oopsies which someone suggested calling them and I absolutely LOVE IT😂) and many pre-orders available, with more pieces being added regularly. I’ll drop the links below so you know how you can stay up to date.

I’m slowly working my way through message and comments. Thank you for your patience while I catch up, it’s been a very unexpected, wild and wonderful week.

Well I wasn’t expecting that 😮 but absolutely over the moon the best of the scenarios played out.

There is so much to share from this experience like how was this possible. What could have gone wrong. What I’ve learnt from this. A closer look at the items. Both faults and beauty. Older kilns and kilns in general 🫣.

I’ve got a pretty good idea of what I think has gone wrong & I’ve got the kiln on now testing that theory 😆

If you want to keep unpacking this with me feel free to follow along!

Pottery is so humbling 🤣. I’m sure if I hadn’t of said anything last night to Matt everything would have gone as planned.

For me when I think about a “worst case scenario” it’s this exact situation. Walking into the studio after a firing checking the safety timer is the first thing I do. This is the first time it’s ever been activated in all my years of firing, to say I’m nervous is an understatement of what I may find.

This kiln is as old as me. It’s not like the new ones, which is why I think I think I love it so much. It can’t be programmed, I have to physically turn the dials every 1-2 hours and once at the last dial knowing I have the safety switch on, I pray to the kiln gods and then go to sleep.

When the safety switch is activated it means the cone has failed. The cone is what dictates the temperature of the kiln but also when the kiln stops. The kiln has easily run an additional 2-3 hours extra.

At this stage, when I open the kiln tomorrow I may find a large puddle of glazed and fused items on the kiln shelves, a complete disaster or be the grace of the kiln gods beautiful glazes I may never be able to replicate again or anything in between 😆.

Glaze firings are unforgiving. Some glazes will go from matte to gloss of to hot or even lose a lot of their colour. Even for my own works I know which colours can go on what shelf of this kiln for the desired outcome the change of 10-15 degrees makes a HUGE difference.

Yes I make beautiful things but the reality of pottery and the art of mastering a craft in this field will forever humble you.

I’m grateful this is the first time but also grateful it happened as I’ll set more precautions in place next time. I won’t have the safety switch a couple hours out from the time it’s due to finish, I’ll make it an hour. I’ll also now set an alarm to ensure it’s off and physically check.

I’ll let you know how I go tomorrow for better or for worse 🙋🏼‍♀️

Happy Monslay friends 🙋🏼‍♀️

I have something that I find rather amusing with you all. After stepping back into the social media era of .flamingo.studio I have a confession.

It took me over 5 minutes to work out how to even post on Instagram again 🫠…. I’m going to blame it on all the updates but also I totally feel my age is not starting to show 🤣.

It’s Monslay - I’m 2 coffees down in a long lost mug I found again. I’ve unpacked a bisque firing and washed the pieces now eagerly awaiting a full dry to be able to glaze. I’ve turned my recently thrown items upside down to finish off the last of the drying before I can do another bisque firing. A much needed tidy up of the studio, today I’ll be off to Bunnings to buy a new mop and bucket and I’ll mop all the floors so the studio will be looking and feeling extra fresh.

As I write this I’ve got the heater on, Leo in his dog bed in front of the heater basically hogging it all 🤣 and in reminded the first day of Winter is well and truely here.

This afternoons throw session will be with white clay! I generally use orange so making sure everything is super clean to switch to white is really important, much more than going from white to orange.

Meaning new volcano mugs are on the way. My favourite mug, my most refined and sometimes my biggest pain to also create 😆

My online store is rather bare but I’ve opened up a lot of my products to pre-order to be shipped within a week knowing the kiln is going on this week and many many many times in the coming weeks.

Stepping back into social media has reminded me of my love of writing and sharing the process with you among showing you the final results of years and years of work, many fails (still fails) and finding my voice in pottery.

If you’re new here welcome 🙋🏼‍♀️ I’m grateful to have you here for the evolution

From the pottery archives 👀 gee time flys which is also the beauty that is ceramics as with time becomes refinement 🙌🏽
