Osmo from Around the World: This time from Japan

The town of Nagi is located in northeastern Okayama Prefecture, a region in western Japan. In Nagi Town, a nursery school and two kindergartens were integrated to establish Nagi-cho Nagikko Childcare & Kindergarten, a certified early childhood education and care facility. The school provides a seamless learning environment for children aged 0 to 5, combining childcare with early education.

Designed to harmonize with the surrounding natural landscape, the school features a spacious layout centered around a 100-meter-long room called “Nagimichi”, along which the nursery and playrooms are arranged in a series of folds.

The expansive space is structurally supported by exposed CLT and other wooden components, creating a warm and inviting atmosphere. The European Oak flooring is treated with Osmo Polyx®-Oil Original in a custom colour for a natural and durable finish.

Spain: SINGULAR TABLES OF UNIQUE ELEMENTS
A Millenary Wisdom, Finished with OSMO

In the town of Pedreguer, on the Costa Blanca in Spain, there is the Unique Elements carpentry workshop, owned by the artisan Nadal. He settled in this beautiful coastal area of Spain with his family, coming from Germany.
Nadal manufactures solid wood tables from different species of deciduous trees, such as oak, poplar, and pine. Each table is unique in its dimensions and finish, following the client's guidelines.
Starting from the trunk, Nadal crafts the top of each table using traditional techniques combined with modern tool technology. The finish is always applied using Osmo products.
Nadal tells us: "In Europe, the appreciation for wood in interior design has changed radically. We have moved away from impersonal and sterile environments, where wood had a smooth, uniform texture—almost a flat surface—to a newfound admiration for the beauty of imperfection and the unique characteristics of each tree, what the Japanese call 'Wabi-Sabi.' Now, people want a table 'with history,' one that somehow brings nature into their home. The table, which tells a meaningful story, becomes the centerpiece of the living room, just as each tree is the focal point of its natural space. Thanks to Osmo, I have complete versatility in the finish and the ability to use technological materials, such as epoxy resins in different colors. The properties of Osmo Polyx®-Oil allow me to achieve more or less glossy finishes, with or without pigments, on both smooth and textured surfaces. It works perfectly at the junctions between resin and wood, ensuring a seamless transition. I use Original Polyx®-Oil Clear Glossy (3011), Satin (3032), or Matte (3062), depending on the design. For pigments, I rely on the Oil Stain range, which offers over 11 standard colors and endless mixing possibilities. For stone-carved sinks, I use Osmo Concrete Oil."
Unique Elements employs millenary techniques originating from Japan, such as Urushi and Tsukuroi, to add personality to its tables and sinks. This process is calm, meticulous, and artisanal.
Wood is always the right choice. Osmo is the perfect coating.

Osmo from around the world: This time from Spain.

THE WILD TABLES OF MORICHE ATELIER

This solid wood table developed by Moriche Atelier is a masterpiece that combines the natural beauty of American red oak with the wisdom and artistry of Pavel Moriche. The heartwood of this American red oak is known for its characteristic light pink tone, highly prized in decoration.
American red oak (Quercus rubra) is a tree native to North America, introduced to Europe during the 18th century for the shipbuilding industry because of its rapid growth. Later, when the natural durability of the heartwood was found to be low, it was discarded for naval use; today in Spain it is cultivated and grows wild all over the Cantabrian coast, forming forests with beautiful foliage.
At Osmo, we are fortunate that Pavel has chosen Osmo as the most suitable treatment for his "wild sculptures", his beautiful creations: he applies and "caresses" our Polyx®-Oil Original 3032 Clear Satin into the wood by hand in the first layers, to detect the smallest sanding irregularities, penetrating and nourishing the wood naturally.
Each piece coming out of Moriche Atelier is a work of art and a healing amulet, working as a union between man and nature, throughout this concentrated and wise work. Pavel puts his soul into each piece and so there is a bit of Pavel's soul in each piece and a bit of the ancestral wisdom of each tree in the heart of Pavel and each end user.
Here we see a part of the process.
The finished piece will preside over the dining room of a beautiful country house on the island of Ibiza.

Osmo from Around the World: This time from Japan.

Osmo was selected for the new school building at Minobu Junior High School in Minobu-cho, Minamikoma-gun, Yamanashi Prefecture, Japan, which was completed in March 2024.

The new Minobu Junior High School building was constructed in response to the aging of the previous school building. It is a two-story, partially wood-frame, partially reinforced concrete school building with a lot of wood from the prefecture and the town. In the entrance hall, there are six cedar pillars, which are more than 100 years old and were donated by Kuonji Temple on Mt. Minobu.

To protect the wood and to achieve a finish that brings out the unique appearance of each wood piece, Osmo was used on the interior and exterior wood surfaces. A custom color was selected that most closely matched the client's wishes, aiming for a natural finish close to the wood's original surface.
