How to make acrylic skins with geode and crystals for your art pieces.
To make crystals: Take boiled water and stir in as much Borax as it will absorb. Add food colouring of your choice. Suspend a pipe cleaner in the water for 24 hours https://www.amazon.ca/Onepine-Cleaners-Chenille-Decorations-Assorted/dp/B07JL4PKY1/ref=sr_1_7?keywords=pipe+cleaner&qid=1585317994&sr=8-7
Feeling creative? The link has easy examples of animals even your children can make.
To make a geode, follow the same steps above but use egg shell halves making sure there are no membranes left on it.

To make acrylic skin: Use a silicone baking sheet with a large cardboard support under it. Sq**rt paint straight out of the bottle making patterns which appeal to you. The goal is to have an even layer of thick paint on the silicone mat. Place your crystals in the paint. You can also use broken Christmas ornaments or trinkets you may have laying around. Wait at least 2 full days before checking for dryness. Acrylic paint may look rubbery on the surface, but will be wet underneath for more than 2 days. You should be able to peel it off the silicone mat easily after that.

A few tips:
Do not substitute food colouring with acrylic paint, it will stop crystal formations.
The colour intensity of your water is about 3 shades darker than the crystal will become.
Have fun experimenting!
