My clients wanted two stained glass bird artworks to commemorate their parents: a Hummingbird in flight and a Great Blue Heron beneath Spanish Moss. They wanted quite large, free-standing pieces to display on top of book cases in their home, and that could be lighted for added beauty at night.

The bird panels were straight-forward to design and build. To make them free-standing, I designed glass pedestals with three aligned slot-openings to hold the panels upright and not topple over. Details from the panels continue down the pedestals, and you can see the Heron's feet through the bottom of it's "pond."

My client purchased an old entry door from a salvage center and wanted to add a stained glass window with "something in a chalice" to honor their Universal Unitarian faith. I presented a number of design options and she selected this Day Lilies design. I arranged a carpenter to refurbish the door, including merging the eight small windows into one large one. Now she and guests get to see this every day from her living room in Takoma Park!

My client's total renovation of her 1880s Capitol Hill rowhouse in Washington, D.C., included replacing the original stained glass transom window over the entry door. "I'd like the exact same thing but without the corner fans and in different colors," she told me. The colors she wanted turned out to be black, white, and grey. No design, movement, or texture to the glass, just black, white, and grey.

I had my doubts she would like it; but as my building of it neared completion, I could see it would actually be a very striking piece. After installing it yesterday, and seeing how it compliments the other design choices in her newly renovated home, I think this is one of the more wonderful pieces I've made in the last couple of years.

It was such a pleasure to make this happy, colorful address panel for the transom window over my client's entry door to his home in Washington, D.C. He is one of my many clients who are pure pleasure to work with.

I first needed to scrape off the existing clear glass the old, crumbling number decals. What a difference now welcomes my client and his guests into his home!

These DC Flag address transoms have become quite popular among my clients! I really like the number style and the texture of the glass in the stars this client chose, and I really like how nice it looks on the client's home near Howard University.

I visited the Statue of Liberty in NY today, and loved seeing the original stained glass lamp. It’s been replaced by a gold one now.

My client in Columbia, Md., just north of Washington, D.C., wanted a 50th anniversary upgrade gift for her home, and asked me to make beveled glass to spice up the paneled doors leading to her library. A carpenter removed the panels from the door, I designed and made the clear beveled glass panels, and together we installed the sparkly, elegant new doors yesterday. Hint: can you see the booboo in the brand new leaded glass doors?

Last October, a gentleman called me inquiring about stained glass to fill five windows totaling 10' wide by 3' high in their sunroom ceiling. "Could this be finished by Christmas?" he asked. I told him we could have the designs finished by Christmas, the actual stained glass would take at least a half a year more to complete. Fast-forward to yesterday, when we finished installing the five stained glass windows featuring different hummingbirds amongst vines twining around a beveled-glass trellis. My huge thanks go to Terence Nicholson T Yuan Chi Nicholson, a former art studio neighbor, who helped me install the very complicated support structure and noodle through its numerous challenges.

My client bought this gorgeous stained glass window years ago, from a church in North Carolina. The badly deteriorated edging metal weakened the structure and allowed pieces to break during moves over the decades. She and I finally did a one-on-one restoration workshop to stabilize it and replace the too-far-gone broken pieces. Beautiful results!

Another D.C. rowhouse now proclaims its address in colorful stained glass over its entry door. Unfortunately, the light was not good for photographing when I finished installing this today, so I'll go back one evening and take pix so you can see it illuminated. That is how stained glass is best enjoyed, after all, with natural sunlight or indoor lighting streaming through.

Installation Day! My client in D.C.'s Tenleytown area contacted me last October, but we had to wait until her new door and half-moon transom window were installed before we could accurately measure the arch and then make her new D.C. Flag Address stained glass addition.

This large project has kept me busy for quite a while now. Here are the three panels I've made so far of the five-panel Hummingbird installation that will soon flit through my client's sunroom skylights. More to come, but here's a sneak peak.
