“She was better than happy—she was finally FREE.”
My Bronco is wearing this tag this month to remind myself that 6 years ago my ex walked out the garage door and I created a wonderful new life.
For a long time though, I felt like I had been traded in like a used car.
Turns out? I had been set free💗
A few weeks after he left, I was lying sideways in my king-size bed watching Netflix. Dishes were in the sink. Laundry was waiting.
And for the first time in 30 years, I thought:
“I don’t have to do any of this right now.”
And dang… I was exhausted.
I had been doing the bills, yard, house, meals, laundry, cars, kids, home improvements, businesses… basically ALL the adulting🤪
I had been taught that being a “good wife” meant making a man’s life easier.
I learned the hard way that a relationship shouldn’t be 80/20 with one person doing the majority of the carrying.
I take accountability for never demanding different. But I also promised myself one thing:
I would never do a man’s laundry again.
Full disclosure… I occasionally do my husband’s laundry.
But he does mine, too 😉
Because our relationship is 50/50—and honestly?
That’s the secret sauce.
Six years later, I don’t look back with anger.
I look back with gratitude.
Because what I thought was the end of my life…was actually the beginning of my freedom.
I’ll never be that woman again. ❤️
