A Tale of One Client and Two Dining Rooms
We're back continuing our hosting + tabletop series. Here are 2 dining rooms belonging to the same client. The first here in the city, and the other, out in the country. I used blue and white in both, but as you can see, the effect is very different in each.
The city walls are lacquered in a periwinkle blue, which was inspired by her existing dining chair fabric. The chair frames add a touch of white, as does her china. In the country, the walls, chairs, and dishes are all white, but the blue sneaks into chair upholstery, placemats, and accents.
If you want instant glamour, one of the best ways to do that is with lacquer, but buyer beware: that comes with a hefty price tag. However… one of the least expensive and quickest upgrades you can make to a room to get it dinner-party ready is to simply paint it! All you need is a can and a brush. Pick a rich, elegant, saturated tone, and in one day, you can create your own private jewel box.
Here’s how to Refind it: use your favorite china as the inspiration for the wall color. Pick one of your favorite colors in the china and then use that as your backdrop color. If your walls are smooth, do them in a satin finish. This will give you some sheen and make them feel richer.
Note: I think it’s worth mentioning that, as glamorous as the city dining room is, the only thing that was actually purchased was the rug. I used her DR table, chairs, sideboard (which I had lacquered like the walls), and sconces (I had them polished for a high shine).
