Beautiful Pair of 19th Century Rococo-Revival Balloon-Back Chairs – Very Sturdy – R2500 for both

This is an absolutely beautiful pair of 19th-century Rococo-Revival chairs, with elegantly curved balloon backs and carved scrolling details — and graceful cabriole legs.

While their design makes them appear quite light, the chairs are quite weighty: a reflection the quality of the construction that went into creating them.

The padded seats are exceptionally comfortable, made in the traditional upholstered style which will need to be re-upholstered if you want them immaculate, however, whatever you do, DO NOT get rid of the original stuffing — new stuffing does definitely not have the same look or feel as this does.

CONDITION
Excellent and very sturdy condition, but please note these are pre-loved. Reupholstery is optional, depending on personal preference.

Today took an slightly unexpected turn as I decided to swing in, en route back from Stellenbosch, to see the Meerlust estate which I’ve often wanted to see but with rushing and avoiding rush hour traffic when passing just never have.

So today was the day — and this gorgeous Dovecote, “unframed” by the trees, was an absolutely splendid sight on the heritage estate.

The poignant takeaway? 🤔 Like this dovecote, life and furniture is in the beautiful details, not the framing of them for a photo opportunity.. have a lovely weekend 💕

Beautiful Georgian Mahogany Chest of Drawers with a Beautiful Patina
| R13,850

This really is a lovely English chest — we all know how I can’t resist Georgian pieces, world-renowned for their classical proportions and beauty!

This mahogany beauty is from the early 19th century and carries all the hallmarks of fine Georgian craftsmanship: rich flame mahogany figuring, satinwood detailing within the fine stringing framing the top and in the diamond-shaped escutcheons, and a prettily-shaped apron with bracket feet below.

Lovely brass antique drop handles as well an out-of-the-ordinary fine ebonised inlaid line, with lozenge-shaped terminals, below the top then further enliven the front.

The raised cockbeading that frames the drawer fronts catches the light beautifully, and the careful craftsmanship is further evident within through the use of dovetail joints at the front and back of the drawers, and the interiors revealing gorgeous old-oak bottoms & sides with Baltic deal back-boards.

👉 On the top of right side is a remnant of an old gold-coloured label associated with the British Antique Dealers’ Association (BADA).

These two oil paintings, while from countries of South Africa and Holland on different continents, have similar colourings and rural theme, and would pair wonderfully well together:

1️⃣South African Oil Landscape by Kobus Fourie | R1,850

This original South African Cape landscape is a particularly lovely oil on board and signed Kobus Fourie — dated ’56.

The scene depicts a winding country road leading through dry Cape veld towards a dramatic mountain range, with scattered trees and natural vegetation across the landscape. I particularly love the soft, slightly hazy treatment of the mountains against the pale blue sky, contrasted with the warmer ochres, greens and dusty pinks of the foreground.

The painting is housed in a wonderfully decorative vintage frame, with a textured finish and ornate foliate corners.

Signed lower right: Kobus Fourie ’56.

CONDITION: Excellent and Sturdy and well preserved, but please note this is a lightly pre-loved piece. The frame has some areas of loss and wear to the finish, as photographed.

Stunning 19th Century Mahogany Four-Tier Stand — Sturdy & with Drawer
| R7,450

I can honestly say that this is a rare piece. Not only have I never come across one even similar in 6 years of hunting for pieces of loveliness, I can also say that it has to be one of the loveliest examples there must be in this style. It’s a beautiful, 19th Century mahogany four-tier stand.

The details are what make this piece so special — beautifully turned mahogany uprights, delicate finials and gorgeous brass castors with their little brass cups and supports, with a drawer below with handmade dovetail joins and original, ornately-detailed brass k***s.

The turnings are particularly lovely, and the overall design is refined rather than overly ornate.

Gorgeous Embossed Leather-Top Occasional Table | R2,450

A very pretty occasional table from the first half of the 20th Century with a beautifully embossed leather top surrounded by decorative gilded edging and fine detailing.

The top has a wonderfully intricate pattern, while the beautifully made trio of legs and centre stem are equally nicely carved.

It’s very sturdy but is not a heavy piece, which is typical of the best ones of this type — light-weight to make it easy to move around.

CONDITION
Excellent & Sturdy, but please note it is lightly pre-loved.
—There is also a very small section of light wear/discolouration to the leather, but note that it is not a “hole” — see photos.

If anyone recalls my backyard area well, we’ve come a long way baby!
It Still is not quite finished in that the bougainvilleas need their arched pergola to come from the right to the house on left… but everything has a stage, and yesterday’s was that this 5m awning went up 😊 🥰

Elegant Nest of Edwardian Side Tables | R3,850

If you’re looking for elegance personified, this might just be it. This set of nesting tables is probably the nicest I’ve yet seen in the flesh.

It’s Edwardian design at its absolute best with this set of 4 tables with slim legs that slot into each other, forming one unit.

Stringing detail additionally expertly frames the mahogany finish gorgeously.
