Part 2: Getting the most out of your fabric 🧵

Here’s how we’re making the most of the fabrics we’ve chosen for our new home.

Fabric can be expensive, but in our opinion, it’s a cost worth investing in. We’d much rather choose a premium fabric that we really love and know will wear well than compromise on something cheaper.

A few ways to get more out of your fabric:

• Use a beautiful fabric on the front of a scatter cushion and a more affordable fabric on the back.

• If you’ve had something reupholstered, always ask for the leftover scraps back. They can be reused for patterned lampshade linings, scatter cushions and more. Remember, we also do custom lampshade orders!

• Repurpose fabric from elsewhere in your home. We’re even cutting up some of our old curtains and turning them into blinds.

We’ve got lots more fabric and upholstery content coming. It’s such an important part of our renovation, and we’ve found some incredible local suppliers who we can’t wait to share with you.

Joburg, we’re coming to you! ✨

From 28 October – 1 November, we’ll be setting up shop at the Glenshiel Fair in Johannesburg, and we couldn’t be more excited to meet some of our Joburg customers IRL.

We’ll have our full range of rechargeable lamps with us, along with a selection of our handmade lampshades — just in time for Christmas gifting (or a little something for yourself).

Come shop The Little Haus, discover dozens of other wonderful small businesses, and spend the day exploring the beautiful Glenshiel Estate.

We’re so excited to be moving into our new home, which, of course, means saying goodbye to our old one. As different as the new kitchen will look, we’ll always have a soft spot for the kitchen in our Constantia home.

We’ve always loved a pop of red on a kitchen island, and you’ll notice this colour appearing throughout our new home too, alongside warm creams, forest greens and touches of mustard.

This kitchen is also a good example of our love of clashing patterns. We like to have a mix of botanical, geometric and stripe patterns within a room, here, the stripes come through in the carpet and Circus shade, the geometric in our Batavia shade, and the botanical in the Roman blinds and Lattice Flower shade.

There’s also something to be said for bringing fabric and texture into spaces like kitchens and bathrooms, which can so easily feel a little sterile. Lampshades, blinds and upholstery are an easy way to add colour, pattern and warmth.

We can’t wait to see how our new kitchen comes together.

The MOST exciting part of renovating - choosing fabrics.

Unfortunately we find the selection of textiles available in South Africa quite limited but we have managed to source some stunning fabrics from and .

You might even recognise some of them from our range of gathered shades.

Go bold, go colourful, mix prints and be brave. As says, no one remembers the beige sofa.
