The goal in designing a luxury hotel is to create an unforgettable experience that is thought of long after a guest has left.

At POD Boutique Hotel in Camps Bay, architecture and interior design were considered as integral to the experience as the service itself.

The 15-room hotel was carefully arranged on a compact site so that every room could connect with at least one of Cape Town’s defining natural landmarks, from Camps Bay Beach and the Twelve Apostles to Lion’s Head and Table Mountain.

Inside, granite, slate, African timber and glass establish a material language that is both raw and refined. Bespoke elements are integrated throughout the rooms and shared spaces, creating an environment that feels highly considered without losing its sense of comfort or ease.

POD was conceived as a discreet alternative to conventional beachfront luxury: intimate, tactile and deeply connected to its setting.

More than a place to stay, it demonstrates how thoughtful architecture can become part of the hospitality experience—and part of what guests remember.

Possibility has always shaped how we think.
Soon, it will shape how we show up too.

What happens when the conventional arrangement of a home is turned on its head?

At House H.01, the main living spaces were elevated to the first floor, allowing daily life to unfold above the surrounding streets and make full use of the home’s position between Lion’s Head and the Atlantic.

Below, the more private spaces are arranged around a central courtyard. Rather than functioning simply as an opening in the plan, the courtyard brings natural light and ventilation into the centre of the home and gives each room its own outlook.

A restrained palette of polished and textured concrete, stainless steel, natural grey stone and dark glass reflects the character of the young couple for whom the house was created: contemporary, elegant and individual.

As daylight moves through the house, and considered lighting takes over in the evening, the same surfaces shift in tone and texture, giving every space its own atmosphere.

Coastal architecture is often associated with openness. But a home also needs places of shelter, privacy and retreat.

Paper Moon is a residential project in Plettenberg Bay, composed as a series of strong horizontal forms arranged around a protected central courtyard.

The main living spaces open towards the wider coastal setting, while the courtyard creates a calmer world at the centre of the house. Here, the garden, pool and covered social spaces come together as a sheltered setting for everyday life.

Expansive glazing lends lightness to the architecture, balanced by the weight and texture of natural stone. Timber screens filter sunlight, provide privacy and soften the transition between the home’s internal and external spaces.

Paper Moon explores the balance between two experiences: the freedom of coastal living and the comfort of having a protected place to retreat.

What if a museum could do more than house culture? What if the architecture itself could become part of the story?

Developed as part of the Cultural Core for SmartCity Abuja, this unbuilt concept imagined a museum and public landscape shaped by identity, movement and connection.

Six sculptural calabashes, representing Nigeria’s geopolitical regions, were arranged around a central Plaza of Light. From here, the experience extended into a contemporary art museum, Gallery of Nationhood, library, storytelling spaces, auditorium, amphitheatre and gardens.

The architecture drew on organic forms and the richness of African material culture, creating a place that felt both grounded in heritage and open to the future.

Although the project was never realised, the thinking remains relevant. It demonstrates the role architecture can play in translating culture into space, creating new civic landmarks and helping us imagine what might be possible.

At GWA, we remain inspired by possibility — including the ideas that challenge convention and expand our understanding of what a place can become.

Designed for entertaining. Shaped by its setting.

At House Sea Lion, living spaces, courtyards and entertainment areas flow into one another, while carefully framed views bring Lion’s Head and the Atlantic Ocean into the experience of the home.

Warm timber, bold artwork, natural light and layers of greenery give each space its own character without interrupting the connection between them.

“The building process and architecture is a love affair more than a dance.”

Set against the slopes of Lion’s Head in Bantry Bay, this four-level residence was designed around a simple ambition: to make architecture, landscape and the Atlantic Ocean feel inseparable.

Although the site is relatively compact, the home feels open and expansive. Generous volumes, concealed glass doors, landscaped courtyards and uninterrupted views dissolve the conventional boundaries between rooms, and between inside and out.

The result is a home that responds to its setting while creating an experience entirely of its own.

Architecture imagined in response to the land, and designed to bring people into a closer relationship with it.

Set among ancient rock formations, the lodge appears to emerge from the terrain itself. Guest suites are carefully positioned between the boulders, while natural timber, earthy textures and a restrained palette reflect the colours and character of the desert.

Inside, generous openings draw the landscape into each space. Beyond them, sheltered terraces, quiet pools and places gathered around the fire invite guests to experience the changing light, expansive views and stillness of the Namibian wilderness.

"The landscape shapes the entire experience."

📍 Oldenburg W**e Estate

Framed mountain views, generous openings and deep, shaded terraces create an easy connection between the building and its surroundings. Natural materials bring warmth, while carefully filtered light shifts across the interior throughout the day.

The result is a place that feels grounded in its setting - inviting guests to slow down, look outward and experience the remarkable landscape from a new perspective. 🍷
