A premium bespoke furniture and architectural joinery business currently being established in Durbanville. The factory is under construction. The team is being built. This is a ground-floor hire, and the successful candidate will have genuine influence over how the estimating and technical draughting function is set up from the start.

This is a dual-discipline role that combines the technical precision of an experienced draughtsman and the commercial rigour of a senior estimator. These functions are inseparable. A drawing that cannot be costed accurately is incomplete. A quote that is not grounded in production reality is a liability.

You will work at the intersection of design, production, and commercial - translating client briefs and architectural drawings into manufacturable solutions, and ensuring every project enters the factory with accurate costs, clear documentation, and production-ready information.

This is not a drawing-board role. You will be expected to walk the factory floor, understand how things are made, and bring that understanding back into every estimate and every drawing you produce. If you have spent your career at a desk without ever questioning whether your drawings reflect manufacturing reality, this is not the role for you.

My client is seeking an Industrial & Interior Designer who sits at the intersection of creative design and manufacturing reality. This is not a studio-only role. You will work in close daily proximity to the factory floor — understanding materials at first hand, working alongside craftspeople, and designing pieces that are beautiful, buildable, and built to last.

If you are drawn to the smell of freshly cut timber, excited by the challenge of turning a concept into a manufacturable product and motivated by seeing your designs come to life in solid wood and precision joinery, this role is for you.

This is not a role for someone content to render concepts that someone else figures out how to make. My client wants a designer who is genuinely curious about how things are built, who walks the factory floor by choice, and who treats manufacturability as a design constraint - not an afterthought.
