The floating timber vanity adds natural texture and grounds the space, while the oversized round mirrors soften the more linear elements and create a striking focal point. Subtle stone finishes, matte black fittings, and layered lighting keep the palette calm and refined.

As a designer, I’m always drawn to the details that reveal the quality of a material: the depth of colour, the variation in the surface, the texture, and the way it responds to light.

Marazzi’s Italian tiles have long been a favourite of mine for exactly this reason. There’s a beautiful balance between craftsmanship and contemporary design, with collections that can add subtle texture or become the defining feature of a room.

For me, choosing tiles is never simply about covering a surface. It’s about selecting a material that adds something meaningful to the overall design.

The muted green walls create a calm, enveloping backdrop, while the crisp white bath and sanitaryware keep the space feeling fresh and balanced. Black hardware adds definition throughout, and the vertically textured shower tiles introduce a softer tactile element against the more solid surfaces.

A recent project at Benguela Cove where bold colour and material continuity do the heavy lifting.

The striking yellow vanity introduces energy and personality, while the rich black slab creates contrast and anchors the scheme. We carried the same slab through into the shower, using it for both the niche and the shower seat to create a considered sense of cohesion across the bathroom.

It’s a good example of how one strong material choice, repeated with intention, can tie an entire space together while allowing colour to become a confident design feature.
