Friday on site. Still busy. Here is what the week looked like.

Not every post is a finished reveal. Sometimes it is Friday afternoon and the team is still on the tools.

This week Fast Glass had multiple jobs running simultaneously across Cape Town — and here is a snapshot of what was actually happening on the ground.

Job 1 — Putty glazing to steel frames
New glass fitted into existing steel window frames using traditional putty glazing. Two specs on this one — clear PVB safety glass and acoustic safety glass. The acoustic glass reduces noise transmission through the window significantly. Ideal for homes or offices near busy roads, schools, or anywhere sound control matters. The stone wall setting on this one is something special.

Job 2 — PVB safety glass repair to viewing window. A viewing window with a broken panel. Broken glass replaced with clear PVB safety glass. PVB stands for polyvinyl butyral — it is the interlayer between two panes of glass that holds everything together if the glass breaks. Instead of shattering, it stays in place. Critical in any window where someone could walk into it or where falling glass would be a risk.

Job 3 — Broken panels replaced
Clear PVB safety glass and frosted vinyl on existing frames. Frosted vinyl gives instant privacy to a panel without replacing the entire glass unit Fast, clean, and effective.

Three jobs. Three different glass specifications. One week.

This is what Fast Glass actually does day to day — not just the showroom finishes but the technical work that keeps buildings safe, weatherproof, and functional.

Proper end result photos coming next week once the sites are clean and finished. Watch this space…

Constantia. Autumn. And a colonial bar installation that belongs in a magazine.

This one stopped us in our tracks.

A private client in Constantia wanted to close off a grand arched opening between two spaces — but without losing the light, the view through, or the architectural character of the original arch.

The solution was an aluminium colonial bar installation fitted directly to the glass panes.

Here is what that means in plain language:
Colonial bars are the thin dividing strips you see running across a glass panel in a grid pattern. They give the glass the look of traditional multi-pane windows — the kind you see in old Cape Dutch homesteads, wine estates, and period homes across Constantia — without actually using separate small panes of glass.

The result is one large, structurally sound glass installation with the aesthetic of something that has been there for a hundred years.

Dark anthracite aluminium frame. Arched top. Grid pattern across the full width. And inside — exposed brick, a life-size horse lamp, autumn leaves on the cobblestones outside. Some jobs just come together.

If you are renovating a period home or estate property and want glass that respects the character of the original architecture:

This is exactly the kind of work Alan and Jacques love most.

Youth Day 2026 | Building the Future Together

Today South Africa commemorates the 50th anniversary of the Soweto Uprising — a moment in our history that reminds us of the courage, determination and resilience of young people.

Youth Day is an opportunity to reflect on how far we've come, while also looking ahead to the future we continue to build together.

At Fast Glass, we believe every generation leaves something behind for the next. Whether it's a home, a business, a skill, a craft or a legacy, the work we do today helps shape the spaces where future generations will live, work and thrive.

We are especially grateful for the young South Africans entering the trades, learning valuable skills and contributing to the growth of our communities and industries.

Here's to innovation, craftsmanship, opportunity and a brighter future for all.

Happy Youth Day, South Africa.

Not every job is a beachfront estate. This one is just as important.

A client called us. Their shower door had shattered overnight. Glass across the entire floor. Nobody hurt — toughened safety glass does exactly what it should — but the shower was out of action and needed sorting fast.

We came in, cleared the site, and replaced it with a new three-panel sliding door with a 570mm opening. That is the gap you actually step through — sized so the shower feels right to walk into every single morning.

No brass fittings. No frameless glass. No ocean view.

Just a clean, properly sealed, functional shower door for a family that needed it fixed and needed it fixed now.

Fast Glass does the big estate jobs. But we also do this. Every suburb. Every budget. Same standard every time.

We are taking you behind the scaffolding on one of the biggest residential glass installations we have done in Cape Town.

Most people see the finished product. The gleaming glass facade. The clean sightlines. The way the light moves through a space when the glass has been installed properly.

Very few people see what goes into getting there.
This week we are changing that.

We were on site at a grand residential estate in Prince Drive, Southern Suburbs — Alan is walking you through the job in this first video, explaining what the team was about to take on and why a project like this requires the kind of experience that very few glass companies in Cape Town actually have.

Here is what this project involved:
A multi-storey glass facade on a large private estate. An arched centrepiece window that demands millimetre precision. Full-height glass panels running the width of the building.

Four storeys of scaffolding. A full team on site. And a timeline of approximately one month to get it done correctly.
Every single pane on this job is custom measured and custom cut. There is no standard size, no off-the-shelf solution, and absolutely no margin for error when you are working at that height with glass of that scale.

A little bit about Alan:
Alan Morris is one of the co-founders of Fast Glass, alongside Jacques Silberbauer. Between them they have decades of hands-on experience in the glass industry — not managing from an office, but on the tools, on the sites, and on the scaffolding alongside their team.

When Alan walks a job site on day one he already knows how it ends. He knows the sequence. He knows where the technical risk sits. He knows how to manage a team across a complex multi-storey installation without a pane being broken or a deadline being missed.

That level of knowledge does not come from a short career. It comes from thirty years of showing up and solving problems on jobs that cannot afford to go wrong.

This is why the clients who have the most complex, most ambitious, and most high-value projects in Cape Town choose Fast Glass. Not because they are the cheapest option.

Because they are the right one.

There is a lot of glass work being done in Cape Town right now. Not all of it is being done well.

Homeowners are getting quotes from companies that do not have the experience, the equipment, or the team to handle jobs of this scale — and they only find out when something goes wrong mid-installation.

We want to show you what it looks like when a glass installation is done properly. The planning. The sequencing. The precision. The team.

If you are an architect, developer, contractor, or homeowner with a large-scale or complex glass project in Cape Town:

WhatsApp us. Alan or Jacques will personally respond, visit your site, and give you a full assessment and quote at no charge.

No project is too big. This one is proof of that.

The storms are coming. Is your house ready?

We replaced a blown-out timber window for a client in Capri — and the timing could not have been better.

That old timber frame had seen too many Cape winters. Warped, leaking, letting in every draught and every drop of rain that blew sideways off the mountain. The kind of window you stuff a towel against when the south-easter hits.

Gone now. Replaced with a new aluminium casement window — clean lines, proper seal, and built to handle exactly what the Cape Peninsula throws at it for the next twenty years.

Here is the truth about Cape Town winters and timber windows:
Timber swells when it is wet and shrinks when it dries out. Do that enough times over enough seasons and the frame pulls away from the wall, the seal breaks down, and water finds its way in. Not dramatically — just slowly, quietly, and expensively.

Aluminium does not do that. It does not warp. It does not rot. It seals properly and stays sealed. And when a proper storm rolls in off False Bay in July — you will feel the difference immediately.

This is also the time of year when most Cape Town homeowners finally make the call.

One bad storm. One wet carpet. One ceiling that shows a water mark on Monday morning.

If you have timber windows that have been on your list — winter is not the time to wait. It is the time to act.

DM us WINDOW this weekend and we will get you a free quote before the next cold front arrives.

When the view is this good, the door should disappear. This is what that looks like in real life.

We completed this frameless floor spring double door installation for a client in Blouberg — and we have to say, this is one of our favourite projects we have delivered.

The brief was simple: the client wanted an entrance that opened up completely to the ocean view without anything getting in the way.

No bulky frames. No visible hinges. Just clean, uninterrupted glass with the Atlantic Ocean sitting right behind it.

So that is exactly what Alan and Jacques designed and delivered.

What makes this type of door special — and different from a standard glass door:

A floor spring door has no hinge on the side of the frame. Instead, the entire pivot mechanism is built into the floor, completely out of sight.

The door swings open and closes on a controlled pivot, seals cleanly, and when it is closed you genuinely cannot tell there is a door there at all.

All you see is the stone wall, the wooden deck, and the ocean beyond.

The glass itself is heavy toughened safety glass — 10mm to 12mm thick, carrying its own weight on that floor pivot.

The installation requires the floor to be perfectly level, the mechanism to be correctly weight rated for the glass panel size, and the whole system to be precisely aligned.

Get any of that wrong and the door will not function correctly or last in a coastal environment.

This is a specialist installation. It is not something every glass company can do. Fast Glass has been doing this for decades across Cape Town — beachfront homes, commercial entrances, high-spec residential builds.

If you are building, renovating, or upgrading a property in Blouberg, Tableview, Melkbosstrand, the Atlantic Seaboard, or anywhere in Cape Town — and glass is part of your plans:

Please do not leave it to the last week of your build. The glass specification, the floor preparation, and the structural requirements all need to be planned early.

Alan and Jacques will come to your site, assess the space, and give you a full quote at no charge.

One conversation at the start of your renovation saves a lot of frustration at the end of it.

WhatsApp us, or visit our website to get in touch. We will get back to you the same day.
