There was always something special about your first car.

Maybe the aircon only worked when it felt like it.

Maybe the radio needed one very specific slap before the left speaker joined the conversation.

Maybe the passenger door had a technique nobody else understood.

But those keys?

Those were freedom.

Petrol money permitting, obviously.

Now imagine teenage you walking around with a piece of biltong hanging off them too.

Honestly, we would've been unbearable. 🚗🥩

Biltong lesson for the day.

That white stuff you sometimes see on real biltong isn't always mould.

Salt can rise to the surface as the meat dries, leaving little white crystals behind. Completely normal in the biltong world.

Our version has a slightly different problem.

People keep staring at it long enough to wonder if they can eat it.

They cannot.

Please leave the keys alone. 🥩

Apparently today is World Smile Day.

Good timing, because this little piece of fake biltong has been making strangers grin at people's keys for a while now.

Usually right after:

"Wait... is that real?"

Nope.

World Tourism Day feels like the right excuse to admit it.

This keyring has seen more of South Africa than most tour guides.
Road trips, garage stops, hikes, that one questionable shortcut through the middle of nowhere. Still hanging on, still starting conversations wherever it lands.

The braai's over, the coals are cold, and somehow there's still an argument about who finished the last of the biltong.

There's one piece that never disappears though. Still on the keys. Still not edible. Still getting side-eyed at every braai since. 🥩
