Feels like now that all 3 stores — and our brand new state-of-the-art goldsmithing studio — are finally complete, perhaps it’s time to revisit something we once loved deeply: Kirsten Goss Abode.

I grew up surrounded by beautiful Scandinavian cutlery and tactile objects, and always dreamt of having that world sit alongside the jewellery as a natural extension of the brand. For a good while, we did exactly that — handmaking sculptural brass, steel & solid silver servers and collectible table pieces here in South Africa.

But the reality was that it demanded enormous time and skill from the same highly qualified goldsmiths making our jewellery. The opportunity cost became difficult to justify while the core jewellery business was growing so rapidly. In truth, it needed an entire department of its own.

Now, years later, I find myself wondering whether the timing may finally be right again.

What I’d genuinely love to know from you all is this:

How much do you still value handmade and locally made objects in South Africa? Do you feel there is still space in the market for artisanal, design-led home objects — or have larger lifestyle brands already saturated that world?

Would you invest in locally handmade sculptural servers, cutlery and collectible tabletop pieces if they were made beautifully enough to last a lifetime?

Very curious to hear your thoughts before we decide whether Abode deserves a second chapter.

If you haven’t tried the new Nespresso store in Cav you’re missing out. They show you around and let you taste. Went for the Paris espresso - if we can’t be there - we may as well be transported. Was def yum. Bon cafe. ☕️ ☕️

Behind the scenes with our MD Sarah.

It might look like two French amies sharing coffee and laughter (which, of course, does come with the job), but in reality this image captures a defining moment: nine years ago, when Sarah became our MD. We gave her this bougie necklace as a cheeky token for a pivotal role.

A Chartered Accountant fresh from Barclays in London, Sarah joined us 13 years ago as FD and brought with her the kind of financial prowess and systems rigour that transformed the business. Where my degree in jewellery design and gemology fuels the creative vision, she supplies the structure and order. Together, we’ve built one of the only truly vertical jewellery houses in South Africa: sourcing our own metals and stones, designing, handcrafting, marketing, and retailing internationally through our own platforms and standalone stores.

What looks like a playful snapshot is, in fact, a portrait of a powerhouse partnership — together with our inimitable team of management, goldsmiths, and creatives — steering KG into its next chapter of fine jewellery. And with the opening of our new Hyde Park store, that chapter begins now.

A COMING OF AGE

Founded in London in 2002, Kirsten Goss has spent over two decades redefining modern jewellery — bold, refined, and unapologetically original. While our collections have evolved, our commitment to craftsmanship, individuality and design integrity has remained unwavering.

Now, 23 years in, we’re entering a new chapter. One that not only champions groundbreaking fine jewellery, but also reimagines the entire experience of discovering it.

From sculptural new collections to immersive, design-led stores — complete with bespoke chandeliers — every detail is deliberate. Every element, considered.

Because for us, quality, design & longevity is everything.

Hi it’s kg. A throwback to early days on the bench.

We get a lot of questions about starting out in London. So here’s a précis of our story. I studied a BA Fine Art (jewellery design) degree at Stellenbosch Uni and headed to London. There I designed for fashion jewellers Erickson Beamon and we did zillions of celebs, fashion weeks shows et al. In 2002 it was time to go it alone and I rented a desk solo at the super cool Westbourne Studios amongst several other creative one-man-desk enterprises. It was a total vibe - a real creative West London crucible with lots of famous stylists, models, and musicians around. Our little team was growing and we’d moved into bigger studios there. We managed to get into Harrods, Harvey Nics, Liberty, and lots of cool boutiques around the UK. But trade was for the birds as it hampered creativity as nothing could be one off - and they paid so badly and their terms were awful. So it was put down to ‘school fees’ for a fledgling brand. I used to drag my collection around London streets to meetings in a customised portmanteau. It was blood, sweat and tears stuff. I felt it was time to go retail or find a day job.

We opened our Holland Street store in 2005 and it was beyond gorgeous. We had along the drag and the whole Kensington Church Street buzz on our doorsteps. After 15 years in London we decided to go online - primarily because I was living in South Africa and had 4 shops there and flying to London 8 times a year - as well as Hong Kong, Paris, New York for shows - was getting pretty hectic with kids at home…..which meant flying overseas for 2 days at a time to get home to them quickly. Only for the young & crazy! Our online UK site and service is still buzzing so we made the move at the right time digitally speaking.

Earlier this year we opened our swanky state of the art studio and it is down to this stellar team that the engines remain well-oiled and supremely slick. Thank you for your ongoing support. We are so excited for some uber changes next year - which will be our 23rd. Here for the long haul! Bombs away 💘🎀💘

It’s always a bit of an epic developing anything. Cutlery no less. Our first round of servers have been so well received. The Skjell & Kōkō. But everyone asked for smaller items in stainless steel too. We did all the last collection in solid silver. So we have developed a new collection and this is the prototyping stage. They will all be stainless steel ultimately but the brass is softer to work in for the hand cutting and smithing part to get them perfect. A few more tweaks and we will be ready to get them into production. Keep ‘em peeled.
