🎬 AV COMPANY IS LOOKING FOR EVENT SETUP CREW — DURBAN
We’re looking for good, capable people to join our casual event crew pool in Durban.
This is not an advert for highly qualified AV technicians or experienced freelancers.
We’re looking for practical, switched-on, physically capable people with a strong work ethic who can assist our professional technical teams with the setup and breakdown of live events.
You don’t need an AV qualification.
You don’t need years of experience.
We can teach you the technical side.
What we’re far more interested in is your attitude, reliability, common sense and willingness to work.
WHO WE’RE LOOKING FOR
You should be someone who:
✅ Arrives on time — every time
✅ Is reliable and doesn’t cancel work at the last minute
✅ Is physically fit and comfortable with hands-on work
✅ Can listen and follow instructions properly
✅ Has common sense and thinks while they work
✅ Can use basic tools
✅ Takes pride in doing a job properly
✅ Looks for what needs doing instead of standing around waiting to be told
✅ Works well as part of a team
✅ Is professional around clients and venues
✅ Takes care when handling expensive equipment
✅ Is comfortable with early mornings, late nights and weekend work
✅ Is willing to learn
A driver’s licence and your own reliable transport are a big advantage.
Experience in events, AV, staging, theatre, warehousing, logistics, construction or other hands-on work is also an advantage — but it’s not essential.
WHAT WILL YOU ACTUALLY DO?
You’ll work under AV Company’s technicians and crew chiefs, assisting with:
• Loading and unloading trucks
• Moving flight cases and equipment
• Running and coiling cables
• Setting up audio, lighting and video equipment
• Assisting with LED screen builds
• Assisting with staging and structures
• Laying cable ramps
• Keeping work areas organised
• Breaking down events
• Packing equipment correctly
• Loading trucks after shows
We can teach you AV.
We can teach you how to handle equipment, build LED screens, run cables properly and work efficiently on professional events.
What we can’t teach is work ethic.
PLEASE READ THIS BEFORE APPLYING
Event work isn’t a normal 8-to-5 job.
Some calls start very early. Some finishes are very late. Sometimes the work is physical. Sometimes there’s pressure because a show has to open on time.
If you’re the type of person who arrives late, cancels at the last minute, spends half the day on your phone, needs to be constantly supervised or disappears when the hard work starts — this isn’t for you.
We’re not looking for people just to make up numbers.
We’re looking for people we can rely on.
If you’re good, we’ll keep calling you.
And if you show potential, there’s an opportunity to learn and progress:
Setup Crew → Experienced Crew → Technical Assistant → Junior Technician → Technician
For some people this might simply be good casual event work.
For the right person, it could be the start of a career in the live events industry.
