Being sisters means there’s never a shortage of conversation, ideas and opinions! From materials and colour choices to sourcing the right pieces, Kate and Louise work closely together across every project.

Luxury lodges, private bush villas, coastal homes or tented safari camps… over the years they’ve worked on a little bit of everything, and each project brings something new to the table.

And sometimes the important decisions are which zebra pyjamas belong in the shop!!

Ever wondered where the name ChicShak came from?

The inspiration came from a book called Shack Chic, in which a photographer documented shacks that women had decorated with colour and personality using what they had available.

Louise loved the creativity behind it, and when ChicShak was founded in 2015, the idea stayed with her. Even the pink line above our logo represents the roof of a shack.

Why do we love working on lodge interiors?

There is so much to think about. How guests will use the space, how the interiors connect with the landscape outside, what will stand up to daily lodge life, and how everything feels when you walk through the door.

And every lodge is different. Different surroundings, different guests and a different story to work with.

Seeing all of that come together in the finished lodge is always a good feeling.

Textures and patterns can change the feel of a room completely.
When we select them, it is never only about what looks good on its own. We also think about where and how they will be used in daily life. In a lodge or a home, that matters just as much as the look itself.
The right mix adds warmth, depth and personality, while still making sense for the space.

We love pieces that tell a story, bring personality into a home and have a connection to where they were made.

We are especially drawn to African-made pieces and the people and craftsmanship behind them. You’ll find plenty of these in our shop, mixed in with some of our other favourite finds.

Not every project has to be a big one.

You can also come to us for inspiration or help redesigning a single room. Like here, where a children’s room was ready to become a big boy room.

By working smart with colour, furniture and the space available, we created a room that suits him now, but can easily grow with him over the next few years.
