Moodboard Monday | Rich Romance

This week’s moodboard explores a bedroom where colour, texture and materiality do the heavy lifting.

I wanted to create something warm, layered and luxurious, pairing soft blush and dusty rose with deeper burgundy and wine tones. Mahogany brings depth and richness, while brass and ribbed glass introduce warmth and a subtle glow.

The textured walls add another dimension, while patterned cushions, velvet, linen and a traditional rug keep the room from feeling too polished or predictable. And the greenery provides an important contrast — bringing a little freshness into an otherwise rich palette.

For me, the most interesting interiors are rarely about choosing one beautiful element. They’re about how different colours, textures, shapes and materials interact to create a feeling.

When a room feels like a work of art, it makes you stop and look.

I came across this beautiful dining room by Sarah Habib Designs and it immediately caught my attention. What I love most is how confidently it moves away from the predictable.

The combination of sculptural shapes, layered textures and unexpected colour creates a space that feels playful, sophisticated and completely individual. The scalloped wall treatment, sculptural burgundy table, walnut furniture and olive-toned glass chandelier all bring something different to the composition, yet they work together rather than competing.

For me, this is a great example of why I’m drawn to eclectic interiors. Good design doesn’t necessarily mean everything matching. It can be about creating tension between colour, texture, pattern and form — and finding the balance that makes the whole space feel intentional.

This image inspired me to create a mood board around the concept: bold, playful and feminine, with a little bit of retro glamour.

ASK THE DESIGNER | What’s the biggest mistake people make when designing their home?

One of the most common mistakes I see is choosing individual pieces before thinking about the room as a whole.

A beautiful sofa, a gorgeous light fitting or a stunning piece of art can all work individually — but that doesn’t necessarily mean they will work together.

Good interior design is about creating a relationship between:

• Colour
• Scale and proportion
• Lighting
• Texture
• Furniture
• Architecture
• How the space will actually be used

Before buying anything, ask yourself:

“What do I want this room to feel like, and how do all these elements contribute to that feeling?”

That one question can completely change the way you approach a space.

A little colour. A little drama. A lot of personality.

I’m exploring a new design direction: Contemporary Eclectic Classicism.

Think ornate architectural details, soft pink walls, rich oxblood, sculptural furniture and statement lighting — with just enough contrast to keep it unexpected.

I love the idea of taking a beautifully traditional space and giving it a contemporary, slightly playful twist.

And that chandelier? Those floating glass globes are the statement.
