Happy Days is simply about the joy of colour.

Bright blues, greens, yellow, orange, red and purple come together in a palette that is full of life. Each colour arrives with plenty to say, but together they make room for one another.

That balance is not prescribed, how the embroiderer places them within the design is entirely her own. The colours stay the same, but the finished result is always individual.

In the studio, those colours move from balls of yarn to embroidered cloth, and finally to the finishing touches that prepare each piece for its new home.

A fitting name for a range that was never meant to be quiet.

The Turaco bird — often known here as a loerie — is hard to miss. Flashes of colour move through the trees, rich greens sit against deeper shadows, and brighter tones appear almost unexpectedly.

That same sense of movement and contrast carries into our Turaco colour range.

Emerald, Willow Green, Kingfisher, Silver, Magenta, W**e and Navy come together in a palette that feels full of movement.

As the days grow warmer here in Limpopo, beautiful rain has brought a freshness to the Kaross studio. Puddles gather beneath the pergola, reflecting clusters of bougainvillea in shades of pink and orange.

Overhead, flowers weave between the dark wooden beams. Planted in 2022, our bougainvillea has grown into a colourful part of the studio, and this spring, it is especially lovely to see it in bloom.

These colours find an echo in our Bougainvillea colour range, where vibrant orange and magenta meet grey, blue, azure, and black. From the flowers outside to the baskets of yarn in our embroiderers’ hands, colour connects our surroundings with the work we create.

A celebration of colour, and the beauty growing right on our doorstep.

At the opening of the Elephant Footprints Library at Nkambako Primary School, we were invited to think about heritage in another way: what are we passing on to the next generation?

In our schools, we want that to include a love for reading and books, the freedom to be creative, and the confidence to tell stories.

Thank you to our funding partners for making space for books, creativity and stories to become part of everyday school life.

From Frank’s hands in Nyakelani to a new home. Tens of thousands of stitches, countless hours of one incredibly talented embroiderer.

Frank especially loves working on large wall hangings and making what we call “kolletjies”—small, spaced stitches that add texture, depth and another layer of detail to each piece.

Embroidery was first passed down to Frank by his mother, Anna.

From the quiet of his home in Nyagelani Village, Frank creates some of Kaross’s intricate hand-embroidered pieces. Taught the craft by his mother, who also worked at Kaross, Frank has developed a particular love for kolletjies and large wallhangings.

Most of our embroiderers are women, which makes Frank’s place among them particularly special. But his work speaks for itself.

Today, he is one of Kaross’s top embroiderers, continuing a craft that first came to him through his family.

Kaross and the Kaross Foundation may have different roles, but at the heart of both are the same people: the women, families and communities in which we work.

We've introduced Evelyn and Rodah, two Kaross embroiderers and mothers. Their daughters, Bokamoso and Pamela, attend Nkambako Primary School, where the Kaross Foundation established a library in 2025.

For Evelyn and Rodah, both married women balancing busy households as mothers of three and four children respectively, their greatest pride comes from being present in their children’s lives.

Their story is a beautiful reminder that impact is rarely just one thing. This Women’s Month, we’re celebrating the women whose strength, work and care create ripples far beyond themselves.

Read Evelyn and Rodah’s full story on our website blog. 🤎

The voice of Pamela.

When we asked Pamela what she would like to say to her mom, her answer captured something we see every day:

Learning doesn’t only happen in the classroom. It happens at home too—in the examples children see, the conversations they have and the encouragement they receive.

For children like Pamela, the women around them teach not only through what they say, but through how they work, care, and show up each day.

What makes them proud?

When we asked Evelyn and Rodah what they are most proud of as women, their answers turned naturally towards the people they care for.

Making sure their children are learning.
Helping with homework when something is difficult.
Working to provide for their families.
Being a mother.

For Evelyn and Rodah, some of their greatest pride comes from being present in their children’s lives.

Their stories are a beautiful reminder of the important role engaged parents play in a child’s educational journey. What happens at home, in the classroom and in the wider community all forms part of a child’s education.

Meet Rodah and her daughter, Pamela.

For Rodah, being a strong woman is about being responsible, and having the courage to ask for help when life becomes difficult.

A woman who inspires her is her Pastor, K. S. Maluleke.

Rodah is most proud of being a mother. As a Kaross embroiderer, she’s also proud that her work helps care for her family and support Pamela, who is a learner at Nkambako Primary School, one of The Kaross Foundation’s partner schools.

Throughout Women’s Month, we’re sharing the voices of women who create, care and encourage—at home, at work and in their communities.

Meet Evelyn Makgobatlou and her daughter, Bokamoso.

Evelyn is a skilled Kaross embroiderer, and she is also the proud mother of Bokamoso, a Grade 1 learner at Nkambako Primary School, one of the Kaross Foundation’s partnering schools.

Her work reflects years of skill, patience and care. But behind every embroidered piece is a woman with many roles—and one of Evelyn’s most treasured is being Bokamoso’s mother.

Throughout Women’s Month, we’re sharing the stories and voices of women who create, care and encourage—at home, at work and in their communities.
