At the heart of Modern Gesture is Candice Lawrence, Founder and creative force behind the brand.

Candice founded Modern Gesture with a passion for exploring materials, colour, form and the relationship between handcrafted design and the spaces we inhabit.

What started as an exploration of materials and making has grown into a design studio creating distinctive lighting, screens, repeat patterns and bespoke pieces for residential, hospitality and commercial spaces.

Candice’s approach is all about pushing materials beyond the expected, combining craftsmanship with contemporary design to create pieces that are not only functional, but become part of the architecture and story of a space.

From concept and experimentation through to the finished piece, Candice remains closely involved in the creative process, ensuring every Modern Gesture piece carries the character and attention to detail that the brand is known for.

Bringing the Nando’s brand to life through bespoke lighting.

For Nando’s Dublin Mary Street, Modern Gesture created Geo Pendants in custom colours, specifically selected to complement Nando’s distinctive brand palette.

The geometric forms add rhythm and visual interest overhead, while the bold colours tie the lighting seamlessly into the wider interior design.

A great example of how custom lighting can become part of a brand’s visual language, rather than simply illuminating a space.

PROJECT SPOTLIGHT | Nando’s Soshanguve DT

For Nando’s Soshanguve DT, Modern Gesture created a collection of bespoke pendants designed to complement the restaurant’s bold visual identity.

The installation combines our handcrafted Woven Necklace Pendants in Red, Black and White with our Tall Fountain Pendants Natural.

The result is a layered, sculptural lighting installation that brings colour, texture and movement to the ceiling while adding warmth to the space.

Pattern and repetition in design has long been used to, create structure, rhythm, beauty and harmony, to provoke and reshape our way of seeing. NEW to the Modern Gesture range is a collection of repeat prints, inspired by our off-cuts of wood. Looking at these layers of odd and unique shapes piled up in our workshop, a vibrant fun range of repeat textile patterns emerged!
