Pattern and repetition in design has long been used to, create structure, rhythm, beauty and harmony, to provoke and reshape our way of seeing. NEW to the Modern Gesture range is a collection of repeat prints, inspired by our off-cuts of wood. Looking at these layers of odd and unique shapes piled up in our workshop, a vibrant fun range of repeat textile patterns emerged!

Amarula helped define a new era for Africa beverages when it launched in 1983. Today, it continues to channel the energy of modern Africa through fearless flavour, innovation design and meaningful connection. African handcraft is the thread that weaves the Amarula story together. It represents the honouring of time and tradition, interpreted now through a vibrant uplifting lens. Our woven screens give the Amarula afro-modernist personality a bold presence. Using a curated colour palette, we’ve developed screens that capture the spirit of Afro modernism. Drawing inspiration from geometric African pattern work, these designs introduce vibrancy and a sense of movement. A contemporary twist that speaks to a refreshed, handcrafted African aesthetic.

Our crafted screens are born from what is often overlooked, offcuts, fragments, and remnants of wood given a second life. Each piece is shaped and hand finished, forming gentle curves and pops of colour are given to irregular geometric pieces of wood, stacking them in ways that gives our Modern Gesture screens a modern dimension. Together, they create a rhythm of pattern and form, transforming waste into wonder. Designed to soften spaces, hold intimacy, and guide the flow of people, these screens stand as quiet sculptures, purposeful, tactile, and deeply human in their making.

2026 is in full swing! There was so much to learn from 2025, many unexpected challenges and here we are in a NEW year! So let’s get to it! New products and business ventures are on the horizon for Modern Gesture! Thank you for the opportunity to be part of your store launch of 2026.
