# A PIECE OF HISTORY

T. Cooke & Sons Ltd was a famous English maker of scientific, optical, and surveying instruments founded by Thomas Cooke in York in 1837. Started by self-taught engineer Thomas Cooke in York, eventually opening the Buckingham Works factory on Bishophill in 1855. The company operated offices and works in London and York, and maintained an overseas branch office at 18 Strand Street, Cape Town.

An "engine divided" set in a wooden box by T. Cooke & Sons is an antique set of highly precise mathematical drawing scales, rulers, or calculating rules.The term "engine divided" means the graduated markings (the lines and numbers) on the instruments were not drawn by hand. Instead, they were precisely carved using a mechanical dividing engine—a specialised machine tool that Thomas Cooke famously perfected in 1865 to guarantee flawless accuracy on scientific scales. Dates between 1895 and 1914. These sets were typically marketed to architects, cartographers, surveyors, and military engineers.

Vandag ontvang ek hierdie onverwagte, en ongelooflike geskenk van 'n kosbare kliënt. En onwetend roer sy my hart en wie ek is. Hoe geseënd is ek nie om my passie te kan lewe nie.

Vir die wat al 'n pad saam met my gestap het, en my ken, weet hoe diep my liefde lê vir skeppend wees, geskiedenis, mooi argitektoniese of historiese geboue, en die storie en diepte daar agter. My passie vir my beroep as Beligting Spesialis & Interior ontwerp word diep hieruit gewortel. Elke kliënt se droom wat ons nou vorm (die "vandag"), is 'n stukkie geskiedenis wat eendag in die toekoms waardeer en bewonder moet word. Die ure in daardie ruimte/huis/gebou geleef tussen die vandag en 'n oomblik in die toekoms, moet gevul wees vrede en tevredenheid en mooi herinneringe.
