Colour in interior design is a psychological choice, and a powerful tool.
Warm colour can create a sense of intimacy and energy. Cooler tones often encourage calm and reflection. Deep, saturated colours can make us feel grounded, while lighter tones create a sense of openness.
We often think we choose colour. In reality colour is already influencing us.
The colours in a room, along with how they are balanced and juxtaposed, shape how we feel, behave and respond to one another.
The most successful interiors don’t simply look the part - they feel right. And colour is a central component of this success.

Truth to materials is a principle the Bauhaus championed a century ago : a material should be honest about what it is, not pretending to be something else. It’s a quieter kind of luxury, a sense of integrity we feel in interiors - one where age and use are part of the design.
This authenticity in our homes grounds us in a world that often doesn’t.

Renovations are so rewarding.
Especially when you manage to add onto the property footprint without major building works. In this home the potential for an undercover living area was there - it just needed an identity.
The existing veranda was zoned into functional areas: the chimney converted to an outdoor kitchen, a bar made of concrete added to the other end, and a conversation area in the middle, all overlooking the pool and deck.
The addition of screens to shut out bad weather means it can be used year round.
A huge value add to this coastal home, and without building on.

Once we decide on the design philosophy, it is best implemented throughout the space.
Stay true to the idea across different applications, and it will form a cohesive look.
In this home renovation, we reinforced the spatial flow in many different ways, creating an over arching feel of lightness and ease for the occupants of this home.
That’s the Psychology of Home.
