When Grex Fox, creative lead at Hogarth and WPP, relocated operations from Nicolway to Woodmead, the brief was clear: build a studio and video edit suites that outperform the previous space in every measurable way — especially sound isolation.
ConstructAVA rose to the challenge, delivering a purpose-built environment that not only meets broadcast-grade acoustic standards but beats the old studio’s sound transfer metrics by over 80%. Through meticulous design, layered isolation, and precision testing, we created a space where creativity flows freely and distractions are eliminated.
The build included:

Floating floors and decoupled ceilings to reduce vibration transfer

From Echo Chamber to Cinematic Sanctuary: Jim Courtney’s Listening & Home Theatre Room in Illovo
When Jim Courtney of Illovo, Johannesburg approached ConstructAVA, he had a vision: a dedicated listening and home theatre space that sounded as good as it looked. But there was one major challenge the room had a reverb time of 4.5 seconds, making it nearly impossible to enjoy music or film with clarity.
Through precision acoustic treatment and expert design, we reduced the reverb time to a crisp 0.5 seconds a dramatic transformation that turned the space into a true sonic haven. But we didn’t stop there.
We also engineered a 12V retractable projector and screen system that disappears seamlessly into the ceiling when not in use. With a single power-on, the screen and projector glide into position. Power off, and they vanish leaving the room clean, elegant, and multifunctional.
Jim was an absolute pleasure to work with a discerning client who values quality and detail. The result? One very happy Jim, and one very proud ConstructAVA team.
