I love this quote by English designer William Morris and it has always informed my approach to design. I believe that a large part of design is intuitive. It is the synergy between the clients’ needs and
desires, and the architectural elements of the space that make great design come to life. I believe in listening to both in order to create a space that makes my clients’ dreams come true. In 2011 I graduated Cum Laude from The Interior Design Institute. This built a solid foundation on which to base my love and passion for interior design. It provided me with the skills to implement my ideas in an organised, practical and inspired way. Upon completion of my qualification, I launched my decorating business. It grew quickly and I was fortunate to have many interesting projects. It was a dream come true and I have been lucky to work with some incredible clients, publications and companies. Apart from my work with residential clients, I have worked as a décor stylist and contributor for various South-African publications. These include Garden and Home SA, To Build Magazine (Industry publication), SA Home Owner Magazine (cover styling) and House and Leisure Magazine online edition. These have been incredible experiences that honed my skill, and informed my style with international design principals and inspiration. I was the editor for a South-African decorating blog, Of Beauty and Love. This gave me the chance to interview industry experts, research international design trends, build great industry connections and increase my knowledge of décor and design. I’ve also worked on commercial projects. I ran a nationwide EasyLife Kitchens interior design analysis and refresh campaign. I did a countrywide tour of all 30 showrooms, that included a full design and décor analysis, identifying design issues and inconsistencies. This was followed up by a new design proposal with a redesign for a ‘typical’ store, to serve as the benchmark for all franchises. Some of my most rewarding work has been working as a décor consultant for Linprop Estate Agency, JHB. This agency is at the forefront of innovation in their industry and enlisted me to assist with styling for photoshoots and staging of empty properties. Partnering up proved very successful and led to increased and expediated sales. I’ve had my share of media coverage. I was interviewed on the teenage Crazy Show (e-TV), on budget friendly tips to redecorate a teenage bedroom. And the kyknet lifestyle show, Tuine en Tossels, to discuss décor blogging. I was honoured to win a merit award during the annual magazine excellence awards, for an article I contributed to for Garden & Home SA, on teenage bedrooms. And in 2016 I won the ‘Sharpie creations’ art competition, hosted by Sharpie, for a teapot design I did. Decorating and design truly is my lifeblood and I look forward to creating your dream space.
