JOY COMES IN THE MORNING
At the moment, I find myself revisiting joy — thinking about the things that give joy, the things that spread it, and the small moments that bring beauty, colour and light into this grey, crazy world.
While painting this piece, French music was playing softly in my studio, and I found myself painting to its rhythm. That sense of lightness, romance and gentle movement became part of the painting itself.
Working in oil on canvas, I layered fresh and olive greens with soft creams, whites and touches of golden yellow. I especially see this painting in a contemporary setting, where its natural oak frame and fresh green palette would bring warmth, softness and a quiet connection to nature. The greens also sit beautifully alongside the rich browns, caramel tones and natural woods that are so prominent in interiors at the moment.
