We almost said no to this project.
When our client asked us to build a custom piece and paint it white, we hesitated. As many of you know, our passion is revealing natural wood — especially recycled oak. We usually remove paint… not add it.
So why would we paint over it?
Then we heard her story.
“My aunt had a beach house with white painted floors and beautiful old furniture. That soft cottage feeling stayed with me my whole life. My mom was also an avid antique collector, so I grew up loving pieces with history and charm.”
Suddenly the white made sense.
Her home isn’t modern or trend-driven. Every nook and cranny has been thoughtfully curated with recycled and upcycled pieces — items chosen not for their price, but for their story, character and soul.
“White creates a sense of calm,” she shared. “It feels uplifting and open. A white home is less about what you see and more about what you feel.”
For her farmhouse kitchen, she dreamed of a large island that would become the heart of the space. It needed to complement her vintage aesthetic while adding storage and workspace.
Knowing we work exclusively with recycled oak, she asked us to design something special.
We explained the process — sourcing the right oak, designing the piece, and taking the time needed to ensure exceptional craftsmanship. For us, perfection and detail always come first.
And when the piece was finally finished…
The result was a beautifully detailed island with the perfect distressed character she had imagined.
While every corner of her home holds meaning, her favourite space is the attic — a magical room she created especially for her granddaughter.
And yes… a white home with cats can be risky. Her secret? Beautiful throws exactly where they’re needed.
Because a home like this isn’t about perfection.
It’s about comfort, intention, history… and the feeling you get when you walk through the door.
Welcome to her white sanctuary 🤍
