A big part of our service is the restoration and repair of aged and damaged timber floors, along with glue removal. In short, we tend to take on the floor sanding and polishing jobs many others won't even look at. Another aspect of our floor sanding work is custom staining of timber floors. This side of floor sanding can be quite difficult and again, it's not a service all sanders offer. However,

over the years we've developed a fantastic staining and finishing method that gives you, the home owner, a lot of control regarding the colour and final finish. True custom stain work.

This was a wonderful and very difficult job Lisa and I took on last summer. Because of difficult logistics we had to perform the work over the Christmas / New Year break.
The job was the Community Hall in Upper Beaconsfield.

The floor was a mess, featuring numerous layers of different floor finishes...that required a lot of heavy sanding to get down to the raw timber. Being able to uncover such old Tasmanian Oak made all the effort worth it.

Lisa and I were feeling kinda' blessed to be given the opportunity to restore such an old floor, bringing it back to its original glory.

It's tough work, but we love it.

A beautiful, eclectic mix of Blackbutt and Yellow Stringybark make up the floors in this amazing Sorrento holiday home.

Four levels of flooring and two flights of stairs is enough to call each day a workout.

On this level, Lisa and I had to do it in two stages so that we could move the massive couch around. Basically, do half let it dry and harden then push the couch on a couple of dollys, to the finished section while we do the other half.
If you're thinking that sounds like a pain-in-the-neck you'd be correct.

The funniest thing about staining a floor, is that everyone has their way of doing it and, of course, they think their way is best..... Lisa and I are the same. We look at what everyone else is doing and go "That looks good, but our way is better"
It's all part of the flooring game.

The most important consideration is that the customer gets a kick-arse job, that's the most important aspect of the whole thing.

Lisa and I have been sharpening our sanding skills in this magnificent Sorrento holiday house.

We have four different floor levels to work on, and a couple of flights of stairs.

Basically, we're all over the shop as we prepare and get a coat on different levels and sections to protect the freshly sanded boards from anyone who walks on them.

Everyone concerned is over the moon with how beautiful it's transforming, given that it hasn't been sanded for some 15 odd years.

Tasmanian Oak - 133mm wide - Lo-Sheen Protection

Once again Lisa and I have created another outstanding floor renovation.
This Frankston home is 60 odd years old. The homeowners had decided to pull out multiple walls, creating one decent open plan living area...and it works a treat.
Before sanding and finishing the boards we went and patched up where all the old walls were, creating an invisible repair. No one would ever know this was once a series of smaller, pokey rooms.

For us, this is the most satisfying work of all. Not just merely a sand and polish, but a total restoration.

This wonderful job here, is typical of how we are sanding and finishing older Baltic Pine floors these days. Our first task is to always remove all the old putty 'n' s**t from between the gaps to ensure we leave a gorgeous, clean finish.
That single effort is so worth it as the end results in these photographs show.
Old Baltic this good is both a pleasure to walk on and to look at. We love it.

This bit of coolness right here is my grandfather's advertising flyer. The man was years ahead of himself as far as pumping out a catchy ad goes.

This is from the late 1940s after immigrating from England, to make a brand new start in a new country. Something I've always considered a brave and no doubt scary thing to do, with a young family.

Two things really stand out for me.

Firstly, the three digit phone number which connected you to the operator, who then put your call through via plugging and unplugging cables. Amazing technology at the time.

Secondly, he nailed his floorboards onto felt over the joists. Can you imagine how quiet and soft feeling that must have been.

Move along 80 years and here we are advertising on all these various social platforms. I love progress... but, I really do love a bit of great history.
