You can’t take it with you. Apparently.

Well, this is it.

After years at our Brookvale warehouse, Friday will be our final day onsite before Tropique moves into its next chapter.

To celebrate (and because there is absolutely no way I can take it all with me), we’re opening the doors for one last warehouse sale.

Expect beautiful Australian-made cushions, designer fabrics, home decor, samples, remnants and showroom pieces, all priced to find new homes before we move.

We’ll also be having Last Drinks from 3pm, so if you’ve visited the showroom over the years, worked with us on a project, purchased a cushion or simply followed along, I’d love to see you.

Fabric is often one of the last decisions made in a project, yet it has the power to influence almost every other design choice that follows.

Colour, texture and pattern can become the thread that connects a space, creating cohesion between furniture, artwork, finishes and furnishings.

This week’s consultation was for a client looking to refresh the cushion covers on their boat.

One of the things I enjoy most about these appointments is helping clients understand how fabric will perform long after the installation is complete. A beautiful fabric is important, but so is selecting something that is genuinely suited to the environment.

Marine projects are a great example. Fabrics are exposed to intense UV, salt air, moisture and constant use, making material selection one of the most important decisions in the entire project.

For this consultation, we explored the Sunbrella collection, a fabric I have worked with for many years and continue to specify with confidence. Its solution-dyed acrylic fibres are engineered to resist fading, mould and everyday wear, making it exceptionally well suited to life on the water.

And if a fabric can spend its days battling sun, salt and sea spray aboard a boat, imagine how well it will hold up in your backyard.

The right fabric should not only look beautiful on day one. It should continue to look beautiful years later.

After 14 years in our Brookvale warehouse, Tropique is preparing for a new chapter and opening the doors for a special Archive Sale.

As we transition into our new studio space, we are reducing warehouse stock across years of collections, samples, past favourites and one-off pieces.

Our very first consultation in the new Studio Tropique space — although with all the moving between locations, our lovely client accidentally arrived at Chard Rd first before making her way to us on Condamine Street (apologies for the confusion 😅)

At the moment, mornings are still spent at our Chard Rd space, with afternoons now shifting into the new design studio as we continue settling in.

This project was a reminder that good furniture is worth restoring. Instead of replacing a much-loved lounge after some enthusiastic attention from Dixie the dog, our client chose to re-upholster in a beautiful FibreGuard fabric from Zepel — practical, refined and designed for real homes.

There is something very rewarding about helping clients extend the life of pieces they already love.

This week I found myself completely drawn to this striped Sunbrella fabric palette — sage, sky blue, marine and rust layered together in a way that feels both familiar and fresh.⁠

What I love most is its flexibility. The stripe carries a quiet structure that allows it to move between settings so naturally; coastal, architectural, relaxed, tailored. The sage and sky tones connect beautifully with nature and soft timber finishes, whilst the rust introduces warmth and depth without overpowering the palette.⁠
⁠
It also works effortlessly with both new season tones and colours many of us already live with, which is something I always consider when specifying fabrics for interiors and outdoor spaces alike. A fabric should feel timeless within a home, not dictated by a single season.⁠

And of course, being Sunbrella, there is the practicality beneath the beauty — fade resistant, durable and designed for real indoor-outdoor living.⁠

“I hope this email finds you well.”

At present, it’s finding me somewhere between Chard Road, the new studio, a pile of fabric rolls and at least three misplaced tape measures.

For the next couple of weeks, mornings will be spent at the old space and afternoons setting up the new studio, so if replies are a little slower than usual, thank you for your patience while I juggle the transition.

Very excited for what’s ahead and looking forward to welcoming you into the new space soon.

As the season shifts, so does the way we use our spaces.

What worked through summer, long lunches, open layouts, time spent outdoors, doesn’t always translate as the temperature drops and the light fades.

The instinct is often to add. Heavier throws, deeper colours. But without reconsidering how a space actually functions, those changes rarely go far enough.

A few small, well-considered adjustments to layout, comfort, and materials can carry that same sense of ease into cooler months.

The prints pictured here are from Mokum, a beautiful example of how fabric can shift the feel of a space as the season changes.
