Bookings for pottery term classes are now open! Join our ever-popular ceramic term classes. We have availability on weeknights - Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday.
We recommend Thursday night classes to those who have had no previous experience in ceramics. This class is taught by the wonderful Kate Moloney, a long-time student of the pottery. However, every class is available to beginners as each project is tailored to individual skill level.
Over 8 weeks, you will be learning how to make vessel forms on the pottery wheel by working on two projects.
These classes cater to various skill levels, from beginner to experienced, and teach the fundamentals of wheel-throwing. Students learn to prepare clay, shape forms, apply surface treatments like glazes, and the kiln-firing process. The goal is to develop technical and creative skills, allowing students to create their own ceramic pieces over the course of the term.
Skill Development:
Students learn various techniques, including:
Wheel-throwing: Using a pottery wheel to create forms like bowls, mugs, and other vessels.
Clay Preparation: Techniques like wedging to remove air bubbles and improve clay consistency.
Finishing: Applying decorative techniques, glazes, and underglazes for surface treatments.
Firing: Understanding the process of kiln-firing to make fired ceramic objects.
All equipment and clay is provided in the term fee, as is 4kg of fired clay.
Please see the timetable for more info on dates.
