Walls + light

This tall staircase is an experiment in light, reflection & being up in the treetops. The shadows of the trees dance upon the ply walls and the changing light & waves of colour as the sun comes out makes changing shapes & hues

Curtains & Blinds

While we’re still at framing stage, it’s time to discuss curtains & blinds. There are heaps of options & the layers & atmosphere, not to mention warmth, views & light control they allow are very important considerations & additions to the internal experience of a home.

It’s one of a few really important aspects, that it’s really important to get right.

Little Button glimpsed through the branches.

Named Quarry Loft due to vistas over-looking Clifton Hills Quarry Park & loft due to its compact footprint & urban locale, it’s a little button of a building, playful & sweet.

And the ply is going in.

Careful cutting & installing on site today. The texture is wonderful, it’s had one coat of so as to protect it & the tiniest bit of white in the coating so it doesn’t yellow.

Hoop pine makes a great wall finish, it’s warm, natural & beautiful.

Energy efficient, compact footprint loft.

While we love addressing the basic requirements, we also love character & participating respectfully in the public realm with forms, details & lively animation.

Internally the coloured glass delights, when completed, it’ll be apparent externally as well.

Site set out in Northcote.

The site is set up along grid lines of fluro string, from these lines we can see where new walls will be located.

The footprint can be easily seen. In this case, we’re able to see just how much is being contained within the small footprint, how much is dedicated al fresco & how much outdoor area has been retained.

When the aim is to disappear into the surrounds, it’s a good challenge, especially with 2 storeys.

Conversely, this build has its own character even though it’s built with recycled materials referenced from the original structure that sat here, a horse stable.

It’s also a celebration of its surrounds so the journey to the upper level, in the tree tops is a fun one.
