Christmas, Bears and Sunflowers… Oh My!

Well, Carta Bella has clearly been paying attention to our weaknesses!

If you know us at Michelle's Cards & Stamps, you'll know there are a few things we find almost impossible to resist… beautiful papers, gorgeous sunflowers, adorable bears and, of course, anything Christmas!

So imagine our excitement when not one, but TWO fabulous new Carta Bella collections arrived – Have A Beary Christmas and Home Sweet Home.

Honestly, it's as though someone at Carta Bella sat down and said, "What would Michelle and Robyn absolutely HAVE to order?" And then designed two entire collections around the answer!

Have A Beary Christmas is full of festive charm, adorable bears and all those wonderful Christmas details that make you want to abandon whatever you're supposed to be doing and start making Christmas cards. Because there's always room for another Christmas paper collection.

And then there's Home Sweet Home. Sunflowers, warm colours and that gorgeous country-inspired feel that makes you smile before you've even picked up your scissors. We may have a slight sunflower obsession.

Hey Crafty Friends!

You know you've had a fabulous day of crafting when your fingers are sporting every colour of the rainbow, your desk has disappeared under a mountain of embellishments, and your floor looks like a paper punch has exploded!

And the best part? You've had so much fun creating that you barely noticed the chaos!

Who needs a spotless craft room when you've got inky fingers, beautiful handmade cards and a big smile on your face?

Here's to a weekend filled with stamps, inks, dies, a little creative chaos and absolutely no guilt about the housework!

Hey Crafty Friends!

We prefer to call it creative organisation. The stamps are on the desk, the dies are somewhere under the paper, and the glitter... well, the glitter has officially moved in and isn't paying rent!

Besides, cleaning the craft room is a dangerous business. You start by putting away one ink pad, discover a stamp set you forgot you owned, and suddenly you're three cards into a new project!

A tidy craft room might look impressive, but a messy one tells a much more interesting story!

Hey Crafty Friends
I need a black ink pad… but which one?

It’s a question we get asked all the time. We regularly use and recommend three different black inks, and the best one really depends on what you’re doing next.

RANGER ARCHIVAL – JET BLACK
Our all-round workhorse. Once dry, it’s permanent and waterproof, making it great for watercolouring, Distress Inks & Oxides, water-based markers, mixed media and general stamping.

MEMENTO – TUXEDO BLACK
If the Copics are coming out, reach for Memento. This water-based dye ink dries quickly and gives a lovely crisp image without interfering with your alcohol markers.

ALTENEW – OBSIDIAN PIGMENT INK
When you want a rich, deep black with beautiful fine detail, Obsidian is fabulous. It’s waterproof and perfect for detailed florals, sentiments, watercolouring, water-based colouring and stamping before blending inks through stencils. Just keep this one away from your Copics.

So, the quick version:
Copics → Memento Tuxedo Black
Watercolour → Archival or Obsidian
Distress Inks/Oxides → Archival or Obsidian
Fine detail & florals → Obsidian
Bold black sentiments → Obsidian
Mixed media → Archival

There really isn’t one “best” black ink pad – it all comes down to what you're colouring with!

Hey Crafty Friends

Have you tried Craft Room Accounting?
Time works differently in a craft room.

“Earlier today” is basically “I’ve had it for a while.”

Yesterday is “I’ve had that ages.”

Last week is “That old thing?”

And anything bought more than a month ago is now a treasured family heirloom.

It’s not lying. It’s a perfectly legitimate accounting system based on how quickly the evidence can be removed from the shopping bag.

Besides, once the packaging is opened and it’s been put in a drawer, there is absolutely no way to establish a reliable purchase date. Case closed.

Now, would anyone like to see the stamps I’ve had forever? They arrived at 10:30 this morning.

Hey Crafty Friends,

Distress Ink vs Distress Oxide…

They have the same colours.
They have almost the same name.
They sit next to each other on the shelf looking suspiciously similar.

But are they the same?

Oh no. They have very different personalities.

DISTRESS INK is the bright, vibrant one. It’s dye-based, more transparent and loves soaking into your cardstock. Blend it, stamp it, spritz it, watercolour with it — it’s fabulous when you want those gorgeous clear layers of colour.

DISTRESS OXIDE is its creamy, slightly dramatic cousin. With both dye and pigment properties, it’s more opaque, blends like a dream and lets you layer lighter colours over darker ones. Add a little water and that fabulous oxidised effect starts doing its thing.

So which one do you need? Well…

Distress Ink = transparent, vibrant and beautifully inky.
Distress Oxide = creamy, opaque and ridiculously blendable.

Both are water-reactive.
Both are brilliant for cardmaking.
Both come in that wonderful Distress colour palette.

And both have a remarkable ability to make you wonder how one ink pad somehow became 27 ink pads.

Hey Crafty Friends

Paperologiest - it's a highly specialised field.

A Paperologist understands that there are three categories of paper:
Paper you can use.
Paper you’re saving for the right project.
And paper that is FAR too beautiful to use and must be protected at all costs.

We don’t hoard paper, We curate it. We organise it by colour, collection and level of emotional attachment. We buy duplicates because “this one is for using and this one is for keeping.” And every now and then, we pull out a sheet we’ve been saving for six years, admire it lovingly…and put it straight back.

Because today is clearly NOT the day.

Paperologist - It’s not a problem, it’s practically a qualification.
