With Port Augusta City Council – ABWA just got recognised as one of their top fans! 🎉 this is amazing news as we love the art vibe within the council area. We can’t wait for A Brush with Art from 5 September- 11 October where there will be several exhibitions & opportunities for visitors to enjoy art and community.

Why do murals matter?

Because they’re so much more than paint on a wall.

A mural can stop someone in their tracks on an ordinary Tuesday. It can spark a conversation between strangers. It can make us see a familiar story with fresh eyes.

Murals tell stories about who we are, where we’ve come from, and what makes a place unique. They celebrate local characters, shared history, treasured memories, and the things that might otherwise be forgotten with time.

They create landmarks. Meeting places. Photo opportunities. Reasons to wander a little further down the street.

But perhaps most importantly, murals bring people together.

They invite curiosity. They encourage conversation. They give communities something to be proud of and something to share with visitors.

Long after the artists have packed up their brushes and headed home, the mural remains. Quietly becoming part of the town’s identity, woven into everyday life and creating new memories for years to come.

That’s why murals matter.

Not because they fill empty walls.

Because they fill our towns with stories.

Every Town Has Its Stories...

Not all stories live in history books.

Some are passed around kitchen tables. Some are told at the pub. Some are remembered by farmers leaning on a fence. Some are funny, some are heartbreaking, and some have become local legends over time.

This year’s theme, If These Walls Could Talk, is an invitation to uncover those stories.

The forgotten characters.
The local heroes.
The tall tales.
The moments that shaped a community.

If you’re considering entering, now is the time to start asking questions.

Talk to your grandparents.
Chat with long-time locals.
Dig through old photographs.
Listen carefully when someone says, “Have you ever heard the story about…?”

You never know where the spark for a mural might be hiding.

🎨 **Registrations are now open for Flinders Ranges – A Brush with Art 2026!**

Artists, galleries, venues, towns, workshops, creative businesses and community groups are invited to be part of one of South Australia’s most loved regional arts events.

In 2026, ABWA will run from **Saturday 5 September to Sunday 11 October**, bringing together art, landscapes, towns, tourism experiences and country hospitality across the Flinders and Southern Flinders Ranges.

This year, we’re taking a staged approach to building ABWA 2026. You may notice a new look and feel for the ABWA website this year.

**Phase 1 is now open — Registrations.** This is where we gather the details we need from artists, galleries, venues, workshops, towns and businesses so we can begin shaping the 2026 program and preparing content for Phase 2 on the new-look ABWA website.

**Phase 2 will focus on creating a more searchable, user-friendly visitor experience** — one that makes it easier for people to explore towns, exhibitions, artists, workshops, businesses and regional experiences across the trail.

📍 **Important:** To be included in the **printed ABWA 2026 Trail Map**, we need your **Registration and Event Details submitted by 14 June 2026**.

Registrations received after 14 June are still very welcome and will continue to be promoted through the **ABWA website and social media channels**, but may not be included in the printed Trail Map.

Whether you are an artist, gallery, workshop presenter, business, town representative or venue wanting to be part of the trail, now is the time to register and help us shape ABWA 2026.
