In the workshop today we have not 1, not 2 but 3 Black🖤 Sassafras big boys ready for their final beauty treatment.

The client brief: 3 x 800mm diameter x 350mm high pendants the same 🙏

The issue: no timber veneer is ever the same 🤔

The solution: get a flitch from Drew at Britton Timbers Australia Somerset veneer plant ✅

“A ‘flitch’ is a bundle or sequential stack of thin wood sheets sliced from the same log and kept in the exact order they were cut.”

These were carefully matched as best we can when cutting the veneer and joining together - we are pretty pleased with the outcome and hopefully our client will love them as much as we do.

Another few days to finish them off before they head off to their new forever home 💚

Something a little different on the workbench today.

Some Tasmanian Blackwood cheese boards and Tas Oak Brisket Boards crafted by Merritt Joinery being finished off with beeswax oil.

Another coat tomorrow, a buff up and off they will go to be used at a very special weekend event 💚

A bit more sanding and a few more coats of the Oslek Coatings clear Hardwax Oil and this English Oak kitchen island bench top will be ready for installation.

4600x1600 island bench top cut from an old tree on a farm in Cressy, Tas. to be installed in its forever home in Portsea, Vic. in a few weeks 💚

Another English Oak desk top done ✅

3 coats, hand sanding in between and it’s come up a treat with the Oslek Coatings Hardwax oil and LED light to cure it. All done in under 40 minutes ready for installation 👏

- no toxic smells when using it ✅
- Australian made ✅
- rapid curing ✅
Anyone can use it (even the ‘tea lady’) 😆

Working with Merritt Joinery and the Oslek Coatings Clear Matte Hardwax oil today on some amazing Oak.

AND I’m also taking the big 500watt LED Light for a test-drive (thanks Oslek)! It certainly has its benefits when working on the larger timber joinery!

The 2 vanity doors were triple coated all round in under 30 minutes and are already installed on the vanity 👍

The desktop was finished in under an hour (3 top coats & visible edges with 2 underneath) ready for installation 👍

Check out this bench top! This is one piece of an old English Oak tree that comes from a Cressy property and is being extensively utilised in their seaside house!

Loved finishing it off the with Oslek Coatings LED clear Hardwax oil this morning.

Much more to come next week. We’ve even bought in the big LED light to help us out 👏
