Crocus Road: Warm, Modern Calgary Interior Design

A warm, modern approach to Calgary interior design, where timeless materials and thoughtful styling come together to create a welcoming, highly livable home.

The entryway sets the tone with its dark-stained front door, woven runner, and a streamlined console topped with a sculptural vase and organic branches — natural fibers and warm wood flooring creating a calm, grounded first impression. In the main living area, a classic fireplace becomes the central feature, finished with soft green square tile that adds subtle colour and artisanal texture.

Throughout, thoughtful styling — woven baskets, modern ceramics, subtle greenery — adds depth without overwhelming the space. Soft drapery filters natural light, and a muted palette lets the rich wood tones and tactile finishes shine.

Effortlessly welcoming — modern, warm, and unmistakably personal.

Powder Room.

Moody floral wallpaper wraps the space in old-world charm, layered against warm brass fixtures and a curvy-framed mirror. A marble-topped vanity on a brass console base keeps it elevated, while café blinds and a vintage botanical print add the delicate, collected touches. Small in footprint, unforgettable in mood.

Exquisitely charming, from our Varsity Residence.

Bayview: Rich in Contrast & Elegance

This complete renovation transformed a dated and somewhat dark interior into a fresh, vibrant space — modernized while maintaining warmth and character.

We achieved this through a stunning combination of light wood and darker walnut millwork, creating a rich contrast that adds depth and elegance. Black metal accents enhance the contemporary feel, while materials with a handmade quality introduce texture and uniqueness.

A standout feature is the custom stained glass detail, which separates the open riser stairs from the dining and kitchen areas. This bespoke element filters light beautifully while infusing the home with character and personality — a focal point that draws the eye and adds a touch of artistry.

Modern design blended seamlessly with classic elements — a home that is both stylish and inviting.

H&H 100 — what an honour.

We’re incredibly grateful to be named to the House & Home H&H 100 list for 2026, celebrating Canadian designers and creatives who are helping shape the way we think about home and design.

To be recognized alongside so many designers whose work we admire and respect makes this one especially meaningful.

AVD has always been about creating spaces that feel personal, layered and reflective of the people who live in them — and none of that would be possible without our incredible team, the talented trades and makers we collaborate with, and most importantly, our clients who put their trust in us and allow us to do what we love every day.

We’re so proud of what we’ve built together and incredibly grateful for moments like this along the way.

Thank you to the entire House & Home team for continuing to champion Canadian design and for including us in this year’s H&H 100. It truly means so much. ❤️

Pick up the November issue on newsstands across Canada starting October 5.

Featured in Martha Stewart The ensuite from our Citadel project made their list of 27 Black Bathroom Ideas, and we’re so honoured!

We enveloped the shower in glossy vertical black tile for a dark, dramatic look. The sheen catches the light and adds so much dimension, and the dark tile quietly did a second job: disguising the shower’s irregular shape. Warm brass fixtures and natural wood keep it feeling inviting.

Guest Bedroom.

A layered retreat in earthy, grounding tones. A mohair-upholstered headboard with a leather strap detail brings texture and warmth, dressed in terracotta linens, soft neutrals, and a striped accent pillow. Grasscloth walls, a vintage needlepoint floral, and trailing greenery add soul and quiet character — comfort and quiet luxury, layered just so.

Warm, textural, and effortlessly inviting, from our Mountain Modern Retreat in Canmore.

Tuscany: Transitional Kitchen Update

A European country home brought into a modern Calgary context. Warm woods, hand-applied textures, and sculptural details create a kitchen that feels collected, refined, and deeply inviting.

The kitchen is anchored by a central island finished with fluted wood detailing and a creamy stone countertop. Two large brass pendants cast a warm, ambient glow, while soft warm-white cabinetry pairs beautifully with rustic exposed wood beams. The custom arched range hood, wrapped with wood trim, creates a striking focal point, complemented by a patterned tile backsplash and polished brass hardware.

Old-world character meets contemporary craftsmanship — soft, rustic, elegant, and undeniably welcoming.
