Why is everything at Berkana 10% off for the next week, you might ask?! Well, it’s all about the &@?!;$; PST that yarn shops in BC will be required to charge as of October 1st. So, we want to give you a last chance to stock up by offering a little discount before an extra 7% will be added to yarn purchases across our province. If you’re inclined to start thinking about the cooler months ahead, we have a skein or two you might enjoy….

We are making room for some new yarn coming for the autumn season, and so this lovely Berroco wool is now on sale for 30% off. Lanas Light is made from 100% South American (non-super-wash) wool and can be used as a fi*****ng or sport weight yarn. At about $10.50 per top-quality 100 gram ball (sale price) you can’t beat it. Great for colourwork and for keeping warm on the upcoming chilly days. Come grab a few balls while supplies last.

We are taking a summer break from Knit/Crochet nights, although that doesn’t mean we’ve stopped making stuff! I’m currently getting winter sweaters ready for all 5 of my grandchildren, so if you see me madly knitting away at the shop, you’ll know just what I’m up to. Fortunately some of the little ones are still very small!

Knit Nights will resume on Thursday September 24th at our usual 6-8 time. In the meantime time, feel free to come sit and do your handwork in the comfort of our air conditioned and air purified space. Happy making! Heidi

Introducing “Baker Street” - the newest addition to our “In The Kootenays” series of hand-dyed yarns. Lily Respair (aka Susan) is our accomplished and talented hand dyer and her artistic interpretation never fails to impress!

We have NEW SOCK YARN from Arne and Carlos! Come check out their newest designs - they never disappoint with their unique way of working with colour and design. Knitting tip - Socks are a great project for these hot days - as there’s nothing to drape on your lap.

We are happy to welcome the newest Sandnes Garn yarn, ATLAS, into the wool-fold of our shop! Sandnes Garn products continue to amaze us with their variety, quality, and performance, and getting to sample something new is always a delight. Atlas is a worsted/aran weight wool composed of 70% lambs wool and 30% merino. It is non-superwash, so will provide beautiful stitch definition and drape. Great for colourwork! I’m already dreaming about a sweater in this yarn. It would show off nicely in the Lumme pullover by Sari Nordlund, the Goldwing by Jennifer Steingass, or the Ingrid Sweater by PetiteKnit.
