Next up in our meet the team series is Senior Designer, James.

As Senior Designer at our Nelson studio, James leads all our projects across the lower Kootenays. His design sensibilities are rooted in natural, regionally appropriate materials and a calm, considered approach that promotes simplicity and ease of living.

With a long background in carpentry and millwork, he brings deep technical knowledge of both building and interiors, ensuring designs are cohesively thought through from the inside out.

Outside the office, you'll find him renovating his own home, helping friends with theirs, or exploring the Nelson backcountry. If you have a project in mind or just want to connect over a coffee or a beer, reach out, he'd love to hear from you.

Over the next few weeks, we’re introducing the team behind TWO73, starting with Founder and Director, Kelvin.

Kelvin is the owner and operator of TWO73 Building Design & Interiors with a hands-on, construction-first approach to design. With a Degree in Architectural Science, a Diploma in Architectural Technologies, certificates in cabinet making, welding, Passive House, thermography and experience as a carpenter are evident in his approach to design and construction.

He blends a dedication to craft and technical know-how with a focus on occupant comfort, sustainability, and well-resolved design. His philosophy is simple: if it’s well designed, it should make life better to live in.

When he steps away from the studio, he can usually be found hootin’ and hollerin’ down a mountain, either on snowboard or mountain bike, or disappearing into the never-ending renovation of his own home, which may or may not be finished someday due to the never-ending explorations of materials and craft.

Camozzi Residence - Revelstoke, BC

Camozzi Residence is fully electric and designed for comfort and efficiency. It integrates a ground-loop system, ERV, ducted heat pump, and radiant in-floor heating.

Fully panelized construction with R40 walls, R100 roof, Passive House-certified windows, and wood-fibre exterior insulation keeps energy demand low while supporting long-term comfort in the mountain climate. Interiors are defined by light timber millwork, hemlock ceilings, and a clay-plaster fireplace.

Stepping roof forms and large structural gestures mark entries, patios, and outdoor rooms.

A glulam structural system from Slovenia is expressed throughout, creating a strong link between structure and form. Material use is restrained and tactile: black-stained Douglas-fir cladding, clear fir soffits, and exposed structure.

New Project - North Columbia Kootenay Regional Mosquito Research Center (NCKRMRC)

After months of “consultation,” the city has officially approved plans to replace the local baseball diamonds with a state-of-the-art Mosquito Research & Breeding Facility 🦟

The new facility will:
- Support “advanced mosquito population growth strategies”
- Include open-air incubation ponds (formerly the infield)
- Offer guided evening tours during peak feeding hours
- Create over 3 new seasonal jobs

City officials say this bold move will “put Revelstoke on the map” as a leader in mosquito innovation.

The development extends the existing neighbourhood fabric while maintaining a domestic scale and a strong relationship to the street.

New Project — Rondo Motel Cafe & Office

A closer look at the material palette for the Rondo Motel renovation.

The design takes cues from the existing cedar boards that lined the former pool room, using them as a starting point for a palette of simple, raw materials. Wood, concrete, and restrained finishes work together to highlight texture and warmth, allowing the character of the existing cedar to guide the atmosphere of the new space.
