Well, this is pretty lovely. ✨

I’m very happy to be included in House & Home’s H&H 100 for the fourth year in a row, and in the company of such an incredibly inspired group of Canadian designers.

I’ve been doing this for 26 years now, which is slightly terrifying to write 😂, and I still feel incredibly lucky that I get to make a living doing something I love. Many houses, many wonderful clients and endless adventures along the way.

Thank you , and for continuing to celebrate Canadian design and for including us again this year.

And of course, a big thank you to our PURE team, our wonderful clients, builders, trades, makers and all the people who help turn our design dreams into reality.

26 years and I still absolutely love what I do. That feels pretty damn good. ✨

There’s something especially meaningful about being recognized here, in the community where we have been creating homes for so many years.

Thank you to every client who has trusted us with their home, told a friend or neighbour about PURE, and invited us back again. And to every hand that helped bring those homes to life, this belongs to you too.

Our clients requested yellow kitchen that felt bright, modern and full of personality. I love these kinds of requests. I feel a little like a genie in a bottle. 😉

We started with that beautiful yellow and let the rest of the house unfold from there. Natural ash, crisp white, and that gorgeous deep green curved wall, which just happens to separate the dining and kitchen, and… is hiding the pink pantry.

This home feels happy the minute you walk in, which is exactly what we wanted for this young family. 🌞

If you grew up in a Vancouver special, you know. Low ceilings, small boxy rooms, heavy cabinetry, hard angles everywhere.

This one was no different, until we got our hands on her. ;) We moved the bedrooms to the first level and then focused on opening up the top floor, we vaulted the ceiling, added skylights new painted millwork and walls with loads of pigment, and voila! An old home with a whole new persona who now lives in the pages of Architectural Digest Spain, and House & Home magazine.

Same footprint. Completely different…everything. ☀️

This oasis of a garden terrace could have been oriented to the view: it’s located in Lions Bay, B.C., where ocean views make the community highly desirable. But designer Ami McKay, founder of Pure Design, and her partner Don Thomas (both pictured below) decided to make the garden, which is supported on a deck 35 feet in the air the star of its own show.⁠

This is the problem we solve most often. And it’s harder to fix than people think.

Our clients lived between two countries. Two homes. Always somewhere between arriving and leaving. They didn’t need another beautiful room. They needed a place that felt like theirs.

Warm handmade tile. A soaking tub you want to crawl into every day. Materials that are layered and alive.

We renovated all three of their bathrooms. The notes they send me about how much they love them are the ones I save.

Bathroom Designer of the Year. Western Canada. ❤️

The award is incredible. But what I really love is standing up there as a finalist, waiting to hear if PURE Design is called, with Sarah and Kelly beside me. Every project we won had their creative fingerprints all over it. Anna, you were part of this too. Can’t wait to celebrate together when you’re home.

Three NKBA Design Excellence Awards this year. Twenty-six years of doing the work I love most in the world. I still wake up passionate about design and this creative bubble we get to live in every day at PURE.

All three winning projects were built by our own construction management team. These wins are Don’s as well.

To our clients, how fun is this? Thank you for trusting us with the good ideas and saying an unequivocal yes.

And Janis. You capture the magic and richness of every room in a way that gets us into the pages of the best magazines in the country. This award has your name on it too.

And Todd. A natural story and joke teller ;) who had us all laughing the entire night. The best kind of host!

And when you look really close, you’ll notice that the wallpaper is hand-stitched, with unexpected threads of chartreuse, blues, and yellows woven through. I love how it brings personality to the space. Organic, imperfect, and unexpected.
