A bedroom is just a bedroom. Unless your child is neurodiverse. Then it is everything.

With this project the starting point was the child herself. Turquoise was her safe colour and everything was built around that: other colours, the floral feature wallpaper, the swing chair, the layered textures and clear zones for sleeping, reading and studying.

Not too bare, not too busy. Warm enough to feel welcoming, calm enough not to overstimulate. And consistent, because predictability is safety.

Limewash walls are all over Instagram right now. But would it work in Scotland?

Limewash is a mineral finish made from crushed limestone. Unlike standard emulsion it bonds with the wall, breathes with it and becomes part of it. For traditional Aberdeen granite and stone homes this matters. Modern emulsion traps moisture and causes damage over time. Limewash does not.

Works well for:
✅ Traditional stone and granite Aberdeen homes
✅ Bedrooms, living rooms and dining rooms
✅ Families avoiding synthetic chemicals

Not right for:
❌ Kitchens, bathrooms or busy family hallways — cannot be wiped clean
❌ Modern plasterboard without proper preparation
❌ Anyone wanting any sheen

This is not for everyone. It was perfect for them.

It started with a colour consultation.

A professional couple from Aberdeen who knew they wanted an industrial-style interior but were unsure which colours to choose. We worked through it together, and a couple of days later, they called me back and asked me to take it a little further.

They are sociable, have friends round often, and wanted a space that felt impressive and different but still warm and liveable. Natural materials, good quality throughout, keeping the herringbone flooring they already had and loved.

This is just a quick visual to show them the direction. Raw plaster wall, reclaimed wood, warm cognac leather sofa and a flash of teal in the pendant light that lifts the whole room.

Love being part of the Strawberry Grange Little Black Book.

Strawberry Grange is a different kind of development in Aberdeen, with just 19 bespoke custom build plots where people design their own home exactly the way they want it. The Little Black Book is their carefully chosen list of trusted local businesses recommended to everyone buying a plot.

Last week it featured Laings in Inverurie, a local family business. Over 120 displays in their award-winning showroom, with beautiful quality kitchens, bathrooms and bedrooms.
