Design study.

A staircase is expensive to change once it is in, so you see it before it is made: every part drawn, and a picture of the finished staircase. Any change happens on paper, and the fixed price comes within two working days.

Design studies.

A curved wall of turned ash spindles, a four-metre ring of end-grain rounds, and stacked oak sculptures for a public garden. Pieces like these are designed with the architect or artist, engineered for hanging, fixing and weather, and installed on site.

If you have the drawing and the space, send both.

A turned newel post at Toine, with the handrail running into it.

If you are replacing one, send a photo of the post you have. If you want a new one, send a drawing. Add the height and the timber, oak, walnut, ash or whatever suits the house, and you see the design before anything else is made.

Design studies.

A baluster missing from a communion rail. A ship's wheel nobody sells any more. A carousel with half its carving gone. You won't find a catalogue part for any of them.

Send a photo of what is there. Each piece is measured from the original, or drawn from a photograph where the original is lost, made in the matching timber and finished to sit beside the old work: churches and chapels, historic ships and boats, fairground rides, old houses, theatres and shopfronts.

Design studies, all three pictures.

New cases that have to stand beside a gallery's Victorian originals. A working replica that visitors watch being used every day. A piece hung over the atrium that has to stay safe for years.

Showcases, plinths and mounts, working replicas and large installations: drawn first and shown to you as a picture in its place, then made in our workshop and installed by the same team.

You have stairs that have seen better days, or plans for new ones, and the parts you can buy off the shelf don't fit the house. The newel is the wrong shape, the balusters are too thin, and the handrail won't meet what's already there.

At Toine, a stone farmhouse in the Ariège, the staircase was built around the newel post: turned newels, turned balusters up the flight and along the gallery, one handrail from the bottom step to the gallery rail, and a braced timber frame under the gallery floor.

Send us a photo or a drawing of your post. You'll have a design and, if you want it, a fixed price for the whole staircase within two working days.
