A lovely customer recently messaged asking us to open a store in Worthing. We’re flattered, but now is not the time to expand. Perhaps we should be reconsidering our delivery zones though !

We’re constantly evolving to keep up with changing trends and customer needs.
In 2025 alongside our bespoke wedding service we launched our Ready to Wear collection:
a fuss free online ordering system for couples looking for stylish, affordable wedding flowers.

It’s popularity has blown us away, and we’re working on some exciting additions to the 2027 collection.

It is a challenging time for our industry ,with flower costs, wages , rates and rents all putting pressure on small businesses.
We never take anything for granted and constantly strive for the right balance between quality and affordability.

Twenty five years on and we are still learning, still growing and still dreaming.

We’re kicking off our celebrations with twenty five giveaways between now and the end of December, so follow us on instagram or Facebook. Hopefully, you will be rewarded for staying awake long enough to read this!

Thank you to every customer, member of staff and supplier, past and present, who has helped us turn our dreams into a reality.

Twenty-five years of hard work, happy accidents, lessons learned and wonderful people.

Mr go.bo and I worked tirelessly behind closed doors, clocking up 78 consecutive working days.
I made the bouquets and he delivered them. The perfect marriage !

It paid off . Our business grew 45% during lockdown , and by the time we could bring back our team back ,we’d signed the lease on our Hove flower school.

Our flower school now runs classes throughout the year, alongside private classes and corporate workshops.

Commuter life changed after Covid .Working from home became the norm, and passenger numbers have taken a long time to recover. Thankfully, our online presence helped fill the gap, and we embraced a new style of trading. Our subscription service replaced late-night trading and offers a flexible, personalised service with no strings.
The people who make it happen..

We recently said a bitter sweet farewell to our incredible Hove manager of 7 years Hayley.
Hayley was instrumental in elevating our weddings and events business and contributing to our current online presence . There will always be an H shaped hole in Hove.

Today our team has never been stronger, behind every bunch, bouquet wedding or funeral is a group of people who genuinely care about what they do.
They are the hands , hearts and characters behind go.botanica, and we are incredibly lucky to have them.
It is they who keep this old machine well oiled, floristry is for grafters and and they don’t work much harder than team gb.
I am so proud of their unwavering dedication, creativity and how much of themselves they put into their work.
We couldn’t do it without them and we wouldn’t want to !

Each September, on our annual 22 hour ferry crossing to Greece, we try to recall everyone who has worked with us over the years.
I’m sure we never remember them all, and some stand out for all the wrong reasons ! ( book of short stories perhaps ?)

Every single one has contributed to the success of go.botanica in some way.

Making mistakes is just as important to business growth as celebrating achievements.
We try to learn from the experience, however painful.

In 2004 we opened at Brighton station, where we spent sixteen very busy years.

Our Brighton pop up became the jewel in the crown giving us a much higher profile, although working there was not for the faint-hearted. When snow settled on the glass roof, we renamed it the fridge.
Our buckets froze, our roses froze and we simply put on another layer and got on with it!

We were incredibly fortunate to have Jemma and Andi managing our Brighton and Hove shops during those formative years. Two of the hardest working, most formidable women I’ve ever had the pleasure to meet, for eight years they poured themselves into every aspect of the business.

We weren’t just colleagues; we built lifelong friendships. These days Jem can be found picking her olives in Puglia in her old go.bo body warmer and Andi still regularly freelances for us.

Along the way we also opened and closed in Eastbourne , who weren’t quite ready for us !

Then came a personal invitation from from NEXT Chief Exec Simon Wolfson and we opened at the then newly launched Holmbush site.

In-store trading wasn’t for us, but it taught us a valuable lesson : not every opportunity , however flattering is the right one.

Happily our Holmbush adventure introduced us to Emily, who went on to manage our Hove store for seven years.
Emily put her indelible mark on Hove and we are forever grateful for her loyalty and hard work. Although she left us nearly eight years ago we still do lots of things ‘Em’s way’.

This was a pivotal period for us. We poured everything into building a recognisable brand, trading relentlessly seven days a week, with early starts and late finishes catching the commuters on their way home. We closed only on Christmas Day, New Years Day and Easter Sunday.

There were a few minor details to consider :
five children between the ages of five and eleven, no formal floristry training and absolutely no idea what we were letting ourselves in for.

We opened a flower shop.

Our workbench a pasting table from B&Q , our opening stock value was £150 .

We quietly slipped into the flower world and quickly made lots of new friends while gradually growing a tiny flower business.

Our mission was simple: to challenge expectations of railway station flowers. No garage style bunches, no gaudy wrapping just beautiful ,premium-grade blooms and bouquets, with customer service at the heart of everything.

We weren’t wrong. Before long we’d outgrown our initial three-day trading week and employed our very first member of staff .

Enter Martha Mitchell aged 15!

Promoted from chief babysitter to florist’s assistant ,. Martha came home one evening absolutely buzzing because she has served someone called Paul McCartney .

“Oh wow!”said her Mum …”so you have met one of the Beatles ! “

“who are the Beatles ?” Martha replied.
Many of you will know gorgeous Martha who is now a successful ceramic artist in Brighton not a pop master !

Meanwhile our clumsy bunches were beginning to resemble bouquets , and thanks to the kindness and patience of our Dutch wholesaler Paul de Groot, I was learning the flower business from the ground up.
The years of growth ..

25 YEARS of go.bo 💫

Buckle up friends , this isn’t a short story!

Like most age related matters, this one has crept up on us. The downside to running a small business is that you tend to lose sight of the big occasions in amongst the day to day three billion tiny tasks.

I hold my hands up to not being very good at slowing down long enough to look over my shoulder, but twenty five years, deserves a moment.
Our story and the people who helped shape it, deserve a place on the grid.

In today’s economical climate, where small businesses are battling hard to stay afloat, ours has been a rather lovely adventure built on dreams, hope, an enormous amount of hard work and copious optimism.

If there’s one thing I hope our story might inspire, it’s that you don’t need to have everything figured out before you start, organic growth is the root to longevity.

The beginning ..

One drizzly evening, while waiting to collect Mr gobo from the London train I was drawn to the great big doors at the front of the Station. Once home to the parcel sorting office it had subsequently become a refuse area. Not necessarily the obvious spot for a beautiful florist!

I was also drawn to the procession of commuters passing by those doors.

And so it began.
A creative background, years in hospitality, a childhood passion for flowers and as luck would have it a husband with years of Station retail expertise.

We were onto something ! …
