🍂 A LITTLE AUTUMN WARMTH FOR YOUR HOME

Anyone else starting to crave warmer colours now that the days are getting shorter?

I'm loving the combination of mustard yellow, rusty reds, warm browns and soft cream. Add a few tactile textures, warm lighting and perhaps some autumn foliage, and a room can feel much cosier without a major makeover.

And the best bit? You don't need to buy a whole new room to achieve the look.

A cushion here, a textured throw there, a warmer lampshade or a few carefully chosen accessories can make a surprising difference. Start with what you already own, then work out whether anything else is genuinely needed.

At SIERRA MIKE, I believe improving a home is as much about making thoughtful decisions as it is about choosing colours and finishes.

The aim isn't to spend more. It's to make better choices about what you spend.

So, tell me: which autumn colour would you bring into your home — mustard yellow, rusty terracotta, olive green or warm chocolate brown?

I'm going with the mustard and terracotta combination!

Look closer. Think before you spend.

BEFORE YOU SPEND MONEY ON YOUR HOME…
Before you pick up the paintbrush, call the builder or start ripping things out, ask yourself these six questions:

1. WHAT PROBLEM AM I ACTUALLY TRYING TO SOLVE?
Is it a genuine problem — or have I simply decided that something needs changing?

2. DOES IT NEED REPLACING — OR JUST IMPROVING?
Not everything that looks tired, dated or imperfect needs to be ripped out.

3. WHO AM I MAKING THIS CHANGE FOR?
Yourself? Your family? A tenant? A future buyer?
The right decision can be very different depending on the answer.

4. WHAT WILL THIS CHANGE ACTUALLY ACHIEVE?
Will it improve how the property works? Make it more appealing? Protect it? Increase its value?
All are valid. But they're not the same thing.

5. WHAT HAPPENS IF I LEAVE IT ALONE?
This is the question I think people skip most often.
You may realise you don't actually need to spend money on it.

6. IS THERE A SMARTER WAY TO ACHIEVE THE SAME RESULT?
Before you commit to the big job, look for the simpler solution.
More work doesn't automatically mean a better property.
Look closer. Think before you spend.

Save this for your next home project — and send it to someone who's about to start one.

What if your home could tell you when something was about to go wrong?

That's essentially the idea behind my new book.

Before It Breaks is a practical homeowner's guide to the small checks, warning signs and routine maintenance that are easy to overlook — until they become expensive problems.

I'm now writing the very last chapter, which means the book is almost ready to leave my desk and make its way into the hands of homeowners.

I've written it to be practical and straightforward — the sort of book you can actually use around your home, rather than something that sits on a shelf looking pretty.

Because understanding your home a little better can help you spot things earlier, make better decisions and, hopefully, avoid some unnecessary expense.

And there are a few things in it that I suspect many homeowners have never thought to check...

Curious?

I'm keeping the first release details for those who join the list.

My alter-ego 😄.

I've always loved being hands-on. There's a part of me that will happily put the nice clothes away, get the paint out and get stuck in.

Honestly, I think that's one of the things that makes my approach to property different. I've been on the tools. I've painted, repaired, refurbished and prepared homes.

When I advise homeowners on their property, I'm not looking at it purely from a design perspective. I'm looking at the bigger picture.

The practical experience is a big part of Sierra Mike.

A property doesn't always need a full refurbishment.

One of the things I enjoy most about working on properties is figuring out what actually needs doing. A tired rental property might need new flooring, some repairs, fresh decoration and better lighting — but not a complete renovation.

A home being prepared for sale might need a different set of improvements altogether. The important part is knowing where to spend money, where to improve and where to leave things alone.

That's the approach I take with Sierra Mike: practical property improvement backed by experience and good judgement.

If you're preparing a property for sale, rental or its next stage, I'd be happy to discuss what you're considering.

Long before buyers start comparing room sizes or discussing renovation budgets, they form an impression. Often without even realising it.

The properties that perform.best a rarely flawless. They're are simply easy to understand. Within the first thirty seconds, a buyer should be able to recognise what makes a property special and begin imagining their own future there.

Well...this arrived today 🥰
My 2026 UK Small Business Awards finalist trophy has arrived, and seeing it in person makes it feel rather more real.

Sierra Mike has grown into something much bigger than the property work I originally started with - property strategy, practical homeowner advice, books, digital tools, interiors and curated furniture - so being recognised for the business I'm building means a lot to me.

Thank you to the UK Small Business Awards for recognising Sierra Mike.

Onwards. ❤️

A little Monday inspiration. 🌿
Deep green, warm wood, natural linen, aged brass and just enough pattern to bring everything to life.

I love interiors that feel layered rather than decorated - where old and new, plain and patterned, polished and imperfect can comfortably sit together.

And green is one of those colours that does it beautifully.

Good interiors don't need to follow a trend. They need to feel like they belong. 💚.

Would you bring this much green into your home?
