A little winter abundance, gathered from the garden…

As the cutting garden settles into winter, its beauty takes on a different character, and so do my arrangements. Fragrant evergreen foliage, jewel-like berries and sculptural seed heads bring wonderful colour and texture, complemented by delicate dried botanicals and the beautiful fragrance of scented narcissi.

I’ll be creating a small collection of bespoke seasonal arrangements this Christmas, bringing together these natural treasures...

Created to bring warmth, texture and understated festive elegance to your home, they’re a beautiful way to welcome family and friends over Christmas, dress a festive table, or give as a thoughtful gift to someone special.

Each arrangement is handcrafted by me, drawing on the changing beauty of the season and materials gathered from my Yorkshire Wolds cutting garden. Every piece is created using sustainable floristry techniques, without floral foam.

A little midsummer magic on a blustery autumn day… ✨

A flower girl fit for Titania’s fairy court, with a flower crown made entirely from flowers and foliage grown organically in my Yorkshire Wolds cutting garden. Each stem gathered at its seasonal best, conditioned and carefully woven together by hand. Finished off with a soft, raw edged chiffon ribbon.

Vivid cornflowers, jewel-bright sweet Williams, delicate feverfew, lavender and mint, with tiny shiny hypericum berries, silver birch leaves and catkins, and a whole host of other garden treasures.

A wonderfully colourful, slightly wild and whimsical flower crown, bursting with the abundance of a summer garden, with every element bringing its own colour, texture and character.

I really love creating wedding flowers this way, working with the changing tapestry of the seasons to bring together beautiful, natural combinations.

A little piece of the garden, made into something really rather magical...

A little Christmas magic, handmade in the Yorkshire Wolds.

Introducing my 2026 collection of handmade Christmas wreaths and swags, created in small numbers using scented seasonal foliage, beautiful natural textures and carefully chosen festive details.

Each wreath is built on a hand-crafted willow base, bringing together seasonal foliage, flowers and seed heads gathered from my own Yorkshire Wolds cutting garden, with locally sourced materials chosen to complement them. From timeless evergreen foliage and the silvery shimmer of honesty in Lunaria to the playful colours of Midwinter Reverie, each design celebrates the natural beauty of the season.

The secret to my spring ranunculus starts right here, in October… 🌱

One of my October jobs in the cutting garden is to wake up the ranunculus!

Often called the rose of spring, these beautiful blooms are firm favourites in my spring bouquets, with their layers upon layers of delicate, ruffled petals and the most wonderful colours.

But before those gorgeous flowers arrive, there’s a little bit of magic to be done…

I’ll be soaking my corms and encouraging them to sprout before planting them out in my Yorkshire Wolds cutting garden, ready for spring. It’s always lovely to think that these rather unassuming little corms will eventually produce such exquisite flowers.

They have a fascinating history, too. Their name comes from the Latin rana, meaning frog, a nod to the damp habitats where many wild buttercups grow. The cultivated ranunculus we know and love today have a Mediterranean heritage, and their intricate, densely layered blooms have been admired by gardeners and flower lovers for centuries.

And so, while autumn is settling into the garden, I’m already preparing for spring… one little corm at a time.

There’s something rather lovely about planting a promise of spring while the days are turning colder. I just can’t wait to see these beauties flowering again!

The wedding was in September. The flowers began in spring…

… some flowers had, in fact, begun their journey the year before.

A little flashback to this beautiful, intimate wedding at Burnby Hall Gardens in Pocklington

This lovely couple wanted their wedding flowers to feel connected to where they lived. Flowers grown close to home, in the Yorkshire landscape they know and love, and gathered in season for their wedding day.

So, months before September arrived, I began planning and sowing for them in our Yorkshire Wolds cutting garden. Some flowers were started that spring, while others had been growing since the previous year, all carefully timed to come into their own as summer turned towards autumn.

It was such a joy to grow and create these wedding flowers!

I only take on a small number of weddings each year, because I want to be able to give each couple and their flowers my time, care and attention. I love getting to know the people behind the wedding, thinking carefully about their flowers and watching the garden grow and change in the months leading up to their day. There’s something very special about gathering what is at its most beautiful in that particular season and creating something that belongs to them.

That, to me, is the beauty of locally grown wedding flowers. They have a sense of place, belonging to the season, the landscape and the people they were grown for…

Join me this December for a cosy and creative evening at Stella's Larder Driffield , where we’ll gather together to create a beautiful candlelit centrepiece for your festive table.

Using sustainable floristry techniques, we’ll work with fresh locally grown foliage and organic elements slow-dried from the cutting garden, carefully chosen for their texture, shape and winter character. Your arrangement will be created in a ceramic bowl with a paraffin-free taper candle, ready to take home and enjoy throughout Christmas.

I’ll guide you through each stage, sharing some of the curious stories, traditions and folklore connected with the winter greenery we’ll be using.

Your evening also includes a festive drink from Stella’s selection and delicious nibbles, with an opportunity to shop at Stella’s Larder and choose some special pieces for your Christmas table.

Hello, autumn 🍂

This week marks the beginning of meteorological autumn, and there’s always a little shift in the garden at this time of year.

There are still plenty of beautiful blooms in the cutting patch… flowers to gather, enjoy and make the most of while they last. But quietly, the garden is already looking ahead.

There’s something rather lovely about this point in the year. Traditionally, September was a time for gathering and saving seed from the season just passed, while preparing the ground for what would come next.

And that same rhythm continues here. My first batch of hardy annual seeds for next season has been sown, and they’re quietly growing away. The biennials are ready to go into the ground, too.

Just as one season begins to fade, the next is already taking root…

I’m delighted to invite you to my Christmas Wreath Making Experience at Wassand Hall Official , East Yorkshire, on Saturday 5th December.

Set within the historic surroundings of the Hall’s stable courtyard, join me for an unhurried afternoon of seasonal creativity, good company and Christmas indulgence.

We’ll begin with a little of the history and folklore behind the Christmas wreath, before I guide you through the techniques to create your own beautiful, natural wreath.

Then, surrounded by an abundance of seasonal materials, you can begin to bring your own wreath to life…

Choose from freshly cut winter greenery, organically grown and slow-dried elements, and beautiful velvet and satin ribbons to create something entirely your own.

Enjoy tea, coffee, warming mulled punch, mince pies and other festive treats as you create, and take a little time away from the Christmas rush.

A little seed saving this afternoon…

I’m processing my cornflower seed, breaking open the dried flower heads to reveal the tiny seeds tucked inside. They’re such lovely little things, each one looks like a miniature paintbrush…

I really enjoy saving my own seed, and I find that seed saved from my own plants often germinates more readily for me. There’s something rather satisfying about collecting it at the end of the season and knowing that, very soon, I’ll be sowing the next generation.

And while I’m doing it, I’m thinking about the folklore surrounding cornflowers. They’ve long been associated with hope and love. It’s said that in medieval times unmarried women wore cornflowers in their hair to show that they were eligible for marriage, and looking for a husband…

… not so subtle!

I love these stories and folklore traditions that sit behind the flowers I grow. Somehow, knowing them makes even the simple job of saving a handful of seeds feel that little bit more special.

This December, I’ll be hosting a very special Christmas wreath-making experience at the beautiful Wassand Hall Official , East Yorkshire.

And this will be a little different…

We’ll begin with a fascinating introduction to the history and folklore of the Christmas wreath, exploring some of the traditions, symbolism and stories woven into this much-loved festive decoration.

Then, you’ll be guided through a wreath-making masterclass, using beautiful seasonal materials, with plenty of tips, techniques and expert guidance along the way.

The result? A unique wreath you’ve created yourself, to take home and enjoy throughout the festive season. 🎄

A little creativity, a little Christmas magic, and a beautiful setting in which to spend a December afternoon…
