Sometimes it’s the little things that make me smile in the shop.

This week a couple came in, although I think it’s fair to say the husband had been rather reluctantly dragged through the door by his wife.

He didn’t seem particularly interested in the jewellery, but then he spotted something that completely changed his opinion of the place.

Mr H’s Star Trek mug. ☕🚀

Apparently, that was enough to make it a great shop!

So there you have it. I spend my days making beautiful silver jewellery, but sometimes all it takes to impress someone is a Star Trek mug. 😂

NOW FULL- THANK YOU!

A little Thursday evening treat! 🔨❤️

I have a bit of a dilemma.

On Thursday evening I’m running my Shot Plate Stud Earrings workshop, but at the moment I only have one lovely lady booked in.

Now, I very rarely cancel a workshop. Partly because I like to be reliable, but also because I know how disappointing it is when something you’ve been looking forward to gets cancelled. I’ve got the silver, the tools and the venue all ready, so I’d much rather spend the evening making jewellery!

Which got me thinking…

I have three spaces available, so why not offer them at a special price and hopefully have a lovely evening of making, chatting and learning something new?

The workshop is usually £70, but for Thursday evening it’s just £50.

You’ll make two pairs of beautiful silver stud earrings, learning how to use traditional shot plates to create lovely textures and shapes.

You could make a couple of Christmas presents, or perhaps decide they’re far too nice to give away and keep them both for yourself! 😂

Of course, the lady who’s already booked will get the same reduced price. I wouldn’t dream of charging her more just because she was organised enough to book early!

So, if you fancy a relaxed Thursday evening trying something creative, send me a direct message and I’ll get you booked in.

Sometimes the loveliest part of a jewellery making workshop isn’t the jewellery at all. ❤️

This morning, one of the ladies who came to make stacking silver bangles told me that her father had been a silversmith.

Although she’d grown up with his work around her, she’d never actually learnt how to make jewellery herself. Now newly retired, she decided it was time to have a go.

We spent the morning shaping, soldering, filing and polishing, and by the end she’d made her very own beautiful silver bangles.

But the really lovely part? She has some of her father’s silver and tools at home, and she’s now making plans to put them to use.

I rather like the thought of those tools being picked up again, and a little bit of her father’s craft carrying on through her own hands.

Of course, there were some fabulous bangles made by everyone this morning, along with plenty of chatter and cups of tea.

What a lovely way to spend a Saturday. ❤️

25 years ago they honeymooned in Mauritius. This year, they went back. ❤️

To celebrate their silver wedding anniversary, I was asked to make a beautiful, heavy silver cuff. A lovely gift in itself, but what made it even more special was that it was going to be secretly packed into a suitcase and whisked off to Mauritius.

I rather liked the thought of this piece of silver travelling all that way, with its recipient having absolutely no ideas it was coming.

It’s one of the things I love the most about making jewellery. I get to play a tiny part in some very special moments in people’s lives.

Here’s to 25 years of marriage, happy memories and making a few more. ❤️

Did you know that bees don’t particularly like flying in the rain? 🐝

Apparently, although they can fly in wet weather, they’d much rather stay somewhere warm and dry until the rain has passed. Sensible little creatures!

One of my bee button necklaces flew out of the shop this morning, just in time to avoid all the rain we’ve had this afternoon.

Unfortunately, I wasn’t quite so clever. Guess who came to the shop without a raincoat or an umbrella? 😂

I think I could learn a thing or two from the bees!

As a rule, I don’t do jewellery repairs. There are good reasons for this. I’ve never trained to do them, I’m not always confident working with metal when I don’t know exactly what it is, and the thought of ruining someone’s precious inherited necklace fills me with horror!

Besides, repairs just aren’t really my bag. I much prefer making my own pretty, shiny things!

But Craig brought me his bracelet with a worn-away clasp. The metal had worn down so much that the lobster clasp’s ring had nothing left to catch onto. I decided to give it a go: a tiny piece of silver soldered onto the edge of the clasp, a good polish and, thankfully, one very happy ending.

I’ll admit I was a little nervous!

It did occur to me that perhaps I should practise repairs on some of my own broken jewellery. Then I realised there was a slight flaw in that plan. Being a jeweller, I tend to look after my own jewellery rather well, so I haven’t actually got anything broken to practise on! 😂

Perhaps I’ll just stick to making pretty, shiny things and replacing bolt rings, which is mostly what my repair work consists of anyway!
