Yesterday we made Pumpkin Jam…very seasonal and a brilliant use of the flesh when you are carving them for Halloween….added oranges, ginger, cinnamon and nutmeg as although the pumpkin doesn’t have much of a flavour of its own, it still full of vitamins and nutrients 😁…it’s a bit like a marmalade 🤔…thank you Wicor Primary School for growing some more fantastic veg..we are at Elson Community Library & Hub on the 7th November and then others in the are before Christmas Elson Schools Fundraising Friends Rowner Infant School Genesis Centre - Locksheath Gosport Diving Museum with the Bayside Cabin

Yesterday’s make was ‘Green Tomato Chutney’…although using these ripe Heritage Tomatoes from Wicor Primary School will make it a little softer and more colourful, the flavour is amazing ..again, it matures over a few weeks and nearer Christmas will be brilliant 😁…got a number of events in the next few weeks so do let me know if there’s anything specific on a date or we can do local deliveries 🤔😁….Elson Community Library & Hub Elson Schools Fundraising Friends Genesis Centre - Locksheath

Today’s make is a new Pumpkin Chutney …will be sweet with a little warmth as it has apples and ginger in there and will have matured beautifully by Christmas …I’m thinking pork or ham let alone the turkey!! Mango Chutney…so different from the commercial stuff!! 😁…haven’t been able to make this for ages so those that do like it will be able to get it again 🤫…we are Elson Community Library & Hub on the 7th November and then Genesis Centre - Locksheath at the end of November….also got Elson Schools Fundraising Friends , Rowner Primary School and the Diving Museum in the run up to Christmas 😳…Wicor Primary School The Trash Cafe Network ecofreaksuk

The end of the tomato season means a number of green fruit is left that won’t usually ripen..however no loss as we can make a fabulous Green Tomato Chutney…it’s not one I had tried or made until a couple of years ago but now I actually hope there will be some green tomatoes left 😁…it’s an all round kind of chutney that goes well with cheese, burgers, cold meats or hotdogs 😋…these are from Wicor Primary School ‘s allotment and combined with some from my allotment and a local special needs projec, we have plenty for another batch this year 👍…ecofreaksuk Elson Community Library & Hub Genesis Centre - Locksheath Elson Schools Fundraising Friends

These are Quince from the Wicor Primary School Orchard…originating from the Hyrcanian forests south of the Caspian Sea, this fruit tree do very well over here and they taste of both apples and pears but they must be cooked!!! The jelly produces a delicate flavour and fantastic on a warm English Muffin…then we make a chutney with the pulp that is remaining, and whilst it isn’t a strong flavour it matches perfectly with a strong cheddar or a goats cheese 😋…excellent as something different for Christmas 😁…do let me know if you would like one at a certain event 😁 ecofreaksuk Elson Community Library & Hub Elson Schools Fundraising Friends Genesis Centre - Locksheath Hamble Heights Care Home

We had some of the Marrow and Ginger Jam on porridge yesterday and it was amazing..little kick of the ginger that had infused with the little pieces of marrow 😁❤️…. The Jewels of Autumn are in my pot today…Elderberries and Apples…I’ve got elderberry juice everywhere 🙄…once cooked I’ll put it through a sieve to remove the seed of the berries and the apples skins, leaving a smooth texture…this then produces a rich decadent jam that is amazing on warm muffins or upgrade a plain cheesecake by adding some of this 😁…all from Wicor Primary School ‘s Orchard… Elson Community Library & Hub Genesis Centre - Locksheath

Apple and Courgette Jam…but it’s not your regular jam and would probably be better named as a Butter in the preserving world 😁…this is made with apples from Wicor Primary School Orchard and also some of their courgettes from the Allotment…this is gorgeous on toast or with yogurt, but actually goes really well with a strong cheese (I have tried it 😁)…now while making this I had a thought!!!
