Today I was down at Burstal woodturners to do several assessments for the AWGB tutors badge. I can confirm that there were 3 passes and I'm happy to say they did really well. Happy tutoring to all.

Yesterday I had half day tutoring session and Paul turned a wide rimed bowl to take home with him well done Paul

Full days tutoring with John. We went through all aspects of woodturning and he completed 3 items of a trinket box to start then an 8" bowl and finished with an extra item of an Apple.

As this year's demos ran to a close I now look forward to starting next year's demos so to plan it out I have added them all to a map to see where in the country I will be going. Up till now I have 16 booked so if your club needs a demonstrator then get them to get in touch and I can let you know the prices and travel agreements I am happy to do.

Well that's my last demo of the year done last night at Lincolnshire woodturners. We had a really good large audience as well. I started the night with the usual safety and then went on to turn an off centre goblets, Elephant and finished off the night with a Christmas tree lite with a multi colour tee light . I hope everyone enjoyed it.

I had 2 pupils this morning having their vouchers for a half day tuition from their loved ones. We did a practice piece to settle them in and to show them the cuts needed to do woodturning . Then we went on and turned a wide rimed bowl to finish their session. They both did really well and went home with a fab bowl each. The blank in the centre is what they started with.

Today was the last day that the first set of 10 x2hr veterans woodturning sessions. And tonight I was sent a letter of praise from one of them which is this . Thank you for the kind words.

I just wanted to say a huge thank you for all the time, patience and encouragement you’ve given me with my woodturning.

You’ve not only taught me the skills, but you’ve given me the confidence to have a go, make mistakes, learn from them and keep improving. Your patience and willingness to share your knowledge have meant more to me than you probably realise.

I’ve really enjoyed every minute of learning from you, and I’m so grateful that I had the opportunity to have you as my tutor. I’ll take everything you’ve taught me forward and, hopefully, one day I’ll be able to produce something that would make you proud!

🪵 CERTIFICATE IN WOODTURNING 🪵
Over the last four months, I have been delivering the Certificate in Woodturning, a structured course designed for people who already have a basic knowledge and understanding of woodturning and want to take their skills to the next level.
The course consists of eight full days of training over four months, with pupils attending two days each month.
Throughout the course, pupils develop their existing skills and work through the main aspects of woodturning, completing a range of spindle turning and bowl turning projects. As the course progresses, they build their knowledge, tool control, accuracy and confidence while learning to work more independently.
The Certificate in Woodturning is supported by the Worshipful Company of Turners and the Association of Woodturners of Great Britain.
At the end of the four months, each pupil must complete a final practical assessment. This involves turning a Taz bowl, working to the drawing and dimensions provided.
The assessment brings together everything they have learned during the course. It gives them the opportunity to demonstrate their tool control, accuracy, understanding of the turning process and ability to work independently.
For me, one of the most rewarding parts of delivering the course is watching the pupils develop over those four months. They may start with the basic skills, but by the time they reach their final assessment, you can really see how much their ability, confidence and understanding of woodturning have grown.
Completing the Certificate isn't just about receiving a piece of paper. It represents eight full days of learning, four months of commitment and a real achievement in woodturning.
