Flooring trends for 2027, and what the forecasts say is coming next.

Honey and caramel, not grey. After years of cool grey, floors are warming up with honey, caramel, sand and chestnut tones.

Herringbone, still rising. Herringbone and chevron are back again in the 2027 forecasts. If you have been wondering whether it will date, the answer so far is no.
Soft and matt, not shiny. High gloss is fading. Matt, low sheen finishes look calmer and more natural.

Stair runners, staying put. Stair runners have been one of the most searched staircase updates this year, and designers still love them. They soften the sound on the stairs and show off the staircase.

Herringbone is having a moment, and for good reason. Here are five, from two homes we have just finished.

1. It makes a narrow space feel wider. The zigzag pulls your eye along and across the floor, which is perfect for a long hall.

2. It has been laid in homes for hundreds of years, so it will not date the way a trend does.

3.It is forgiving. The pattern breaks up the floor, so everyday scuffs are much harder to spot than on long, plain boards.

4. It suits any home. Period cottage or new build, panelled walls or plain white ones, it fits in.

5. It goes almost anywhere. It comes in wood and in LVT, so it can go into hallways and kitchens that see wet boots and muddy paws.
